Pompey have officially been relegated. Victory for Oldham tonight confirmed that we cannot secure enough points to catch them, even if the points loss would have seen this anyway.

As Pompey took part in a fund raising friendly against IBV relegation to league two was tonight officially confirmed with Oldham winning at Yeovil.

Lets face it we have all known for some time that we were going down, it was just a case of when and not if!

Technically it was 'officially-unofficially confirmed' on Good Friday when failure to beat Preston ensured that enough points – taking the loss of 10-points into account – could not be amassed to keep us up...

Although hope had been retained, albeit it minimal hope, that we could do enough to be relegated as a result of the deducted points alone. This is no longer possible due to the Oldham's 1-0 win at promotion chasing Yeovil tonight.

The best we can now achieve is finishing in the final relegation spot, which is still something to aim for as I assume there are financial rewards depending on league placing?

It is at the 'discretion of the football league' as to when the points are taken off but you would be surprised if they did anything other than carry these over to next season now as they will not make a difference this time round.

So, starting on –10-points seems likely to be our fate at the start of the 2013/14 league two season...

PLAY UP POMPEY!

I believe that there is a contractual agreement in place between the PST and the FL regarding coming out of admin, and the when the points penalty will be applied. Which means it could well be this season, regardless of our final league position.

I hope you're right Nagoya. Would be what I would see as a sensible outcome: rewarding the tenacity of the fans to make up for the mistakes of others by giving them a fresh start next season. But understand other clubs who have stuck to their budgets may not agree.

Could be an interesting league next season as I reckon by christmas there will be many a club deducted 10 points, still looked at the league 2 table last night and many a new ground so bring on August 3rd.

My understanding is that -10 becomes effective upon exit from administration. However, the FL has the discretion as to when it is applied.

Don't hold your breath

i know many will say 'we should be happy with have a club', and of course we should, but i do not think we can underestimate the impact going into league two on -10pts would have... you are off on a negative foot from the off and already looking another relegation in the face!

it is all very well saying 'this team would keep us up', i think it would -10pts or not, but the reality is that a good number of this current squad will not be here next season so practice is alot tougher than theory.

NOT trying to be negative, want to be positive and looking forward to the future now but will look forward to it EVEN MORE if we start next season on 0pts!

i hope you are right Nagoya, altho i am with Tony tbh, i would not be holding my breath as the 'discretion' the football league are thought to have is surely going to see them carry it over?

being punished enough probably is not an arguement that will wash with others clubs is it...

Our new chairman said on Solent this morning, that he was very, very hopeful of the 10 points coming off this season, hope hes right.

Taken from another board, it's from the contract regarding the sale of he club. If taken as below, the points come off his season. Of course he FL are a law unto themselves so let's see what actually happens.

"Therefore, as a condition of membership, any new company established to apply for ownership of Portsmouth Football Club's share in The Football League will be required to:

1. Accept a deduction of 10 points in the 2012/13 season;

2. Agree that only a limited proportion of the secured debt from the previous club can be carried forward into the new company as secured debt.

3. Pay all football creditors in full, unless mutually acceptable compromise agreements are put in place.

4. Agree to a range of other restrictions on playing budgets, future borrowing and loan repayments for the next 5 seasons."

It subsequently said the club would be liquidated if it did not come out of administration before the end of the season.
Therefore, there seemed to be no room for points being deducted next season.

Absolutely delighted with this news. No club should get away with taking the piss over unpaid debts, especially you lot.

I hope the 10pts deduction comes into force next season if there's any justice.

I don't think any sensible fan cares less if you rot away and fall through the leagues. You deserve everything you get and even then that won't be enough.

steve do you have to work hard to be such the tool you come across as being or is it a natural thing?

any 'sensible fan' would realise that we ARE NOT the only club that has 'cheated' or 'spent beyond our means' for success, every f*cker is doing it - very, very few clubs do actually live within their means these days, especially the higher up the pyramid you go...

that is putting aside that our situation is so much different than most others, any dodgy paracite that could was trying to get their mits on us to screw us over more!

some have short memories as brighton have had their fare share of brushes with disasters, and what is happening now?

no doubt plenty of cash is being splashed that cannot be afforded by the club - when, and not if, that is called in BOOM...

It's a shame Guy wasn't in the hotseat earlier.

Indeed, we may have stayed up even with the minus ten!

As for the scummer, do they not have anything better to do? Maybe they should complain to themselves about cheating their way back to the Prem with money they can't afford to spend....

Can't wait for the pot of gold at the end of Brighton's sparkly frilly rainbow to run out.

You'll be back to playing at Gillingham again!

Who are Brighton? What is the reason for their existence?

Small club with no history, yet have the audacity to come on here & try to talk football!

I suppose that's because his BHA friends think he is a ****, just like we do, so nobody wants to talk about Brighton with him.

my impression is that this idea that they might take the points off next season im thinking is all hearsay and gossip!the fl did state in july last year that any points deduction would come off in the 2012/2013 season. at the end of the day a points deduction is what it says on the tin, a deduction of points as punishment. its not there to relegate a team! if that where the case the fl might aswell impose an automatic relegation on a club.

You will be surprised how deep the hatred runs from BHA fans

I really don't care whether Brighton's small band of newly found glory-hunting fans are upset.

We're ecstatic mate. And that's all that matters!

Stevebha, what you must remember is that you are largely an irrelevance so it doesn't matter what opinion or views you have. Actually, the fact you are so annoyed adds (in a very small way you understand) to the euphoria of the weekend really, so thanks for that mate!

BHA, insignificant little team, insignificant little fans in an insignificant little town (it isn't a real city ) they've won f all and will win f all. You're right Emsworth, their tantrums make this weekend even better.
