Vital Football Legend
Through to the third round with a number of fringe players who did themselves no harm at all. Elbouzedi and Howarth score their first goals for the club - has Elbouzedi done enough to earn his first league appearance of the season? That's 44 goals for the Lincoln goal machine, and Jorge hits double figures - can he beat his best ever total (19)? Another penalty assist for Mr Johnson, the referee obviously hasn't been told yet…

Terrific team performance

Palmer 6.5 Largely untested throughout but showed his domination of the area a few times

Gotts 7.5 Busy and very productive throughout. Might have tired a smidge
Eyoma 8 Terrific in the centre and so cool under pressure
Melbourne 7.5 Fine match in the middle. Did the simple things very well and made three excellent blocks
Roughan 7 Excellent at both ends

McCrandles 6.5 Did simple things well. Needs to remember hugs are not allowed in Tier 2 areas
Johnson 8 Superb in a slightly deeper role than he's used to.
Howarth 7.5 Fine match. Involved throughout. Showed tonight that he can be a vital part of the squad

Anderson 7.5 Hard working as usual
Scully 8 Terrific match leading the line and took his goal well
Elbouzedi 8.5 Goes without saying his best match in a City shirt. That run and pass for Scully's opener would have been repeated constantly if tonight's match was a Premier League one.

Grant 7 Usual hard working performance and unreachable penalty

Still buzzing after deciding to watch this and be richly rewarded. Earlier in the season, we were taking apart L2 sides but sneaking it against our L1 competitors. Second half on Saturday and 90 minutes tonight, an enjoyable demolition job on fellow L1-ers.
Palmer - 7 - 1 good save, dealt with everything else with customary insouciance, looked to be experimenting with different kick-out options late in the 2nd half.
Gotts - 8 - couple of early wonky passes aside, dynamic up and down the line, another player learning to punch above his weight. Class.
Eyoma - 7.5 - calm and capable, not averse to an occasional Montsma-esque forward foray.
Melbourne - 7 - looked much better than at LB but might be the quality of the opposition.
Roughan - 7 - a few rusty moments, but can be satisfied with his progress.
Howarth - 8 - lively, on-method and bagged a goal.
McGrandles - 7 - paced his outing in a more withdrawn role, most obvious booking of the season means a rest in the next round.
Johnson - 8.5 - given a midfield role and thrived. The explosive pace still deployed to good effect, decison making and passing much improved. A good night's education.
Anderson -7.5 - great cross for Zach's goal, worked nicely with Gotts
Elbouzedi - 9 - welcome aboard, Zach. 2 assists, 1 goal, pace and control terrified the Shrews.
Scully - 8 - back to his buzzy best, his 90th minute harrying of defenders encapsulated a committed performance, a goal and another free kick option.

Grant - 8 - game still needed to be won in the second half, one stupendous tackle, some classy passing and a penalty highlights of another mature contribution which in the end made the win look easy.

Palmer - 6 - Without watching back I thought he could have done better with the goal. Commanding as ever.
Gotts - 7.5 - Really coming into things now, looked solid defensively.
Eyoma - 7.5 - Some clever defensive work and looked generally untroubled.
Melbourne - 7 - Again, generally composed and untroubled. Two great blocks to set up a counter attack.
Roughan - 6.5 - Not his most involved game but steady.
Howarth - 7 - Lots of energy and involvement and a well taken goal. Perhaps should have had more.
McGrandles - 7 - Composed head in the first half, helped the structure of the team and held midfield together.
Johnson - 8 - Looked back at his best, some cracking runs and great tracking back. About time he won a penalty.
Anderson - 7.5 - Brilliant pace and work rate as per usual, great assist for Elbouzedi.
Elbouzedi - 8 - Electric pace, they couldn’t get near him. Could have had more goals on another day. A goal and two assists.
Scully - 9 - Genuinely superb. Harried them all over the pitch and posed a real threat. One well taken goal and two very close efforts. Also set up Howarth with a super pull-back and linked up brilliantly with Johnson for the penalty.

Grant - 8 - Did the defensive work we can now expect of him (?!) as well as looking comfortably a class above. His back heel pass late on was a good example. Great penalty too.
