Vital 1st Team Regular
Smith 6.5: Competent once more, needs a chance in the first XI.
Lewis 8: Excellent, all-round display. Again. Tackles like a terrier, crosses well, passes well, gets up and down the pitch well Like Smith, has to be in the side on Saturday not on bench duty.
Bolger 6.5: Did okay, nothing outstanding.
Melbourne 8: Impressive at centre-half. Made several great tackles and strode forward with purpose at times and picked out some good passes. Gave Appleton food for thought for sure.
Toffolo 7.5: Quality. Linked well with Grant and top effort, including leaping over advertising hoardings in second half to retrieve the ball.
O'Connor 7: Showed why he should be restored to the starting XI. Combative.
Anderson 4: Poor. Something is amiss with him. Constantly caught napping and running into cul-de-sacs.
Chapman 6: Okay, but goes for the easy ball too often and not one who is going to make things happen.
Grant 6.5: Good first half and some lovely tricks.
Hesketh 6.5: Played like a man possessed for first 20 minutes and then eventually ran out of steam. Good first showing though.
Akinde 4: A chance to stake a claim for a first team spot and he turns in an effort like that. Pathetic. Little effort, never won a header, doesn’t seem to want to shoot or at least get his boot behind the ball. No presence up front whatsoever against a defence made up of kids. Put some effort in next time... if there is a next time.
Andrade 6: Average.

Lewis 6.5 Linked well going forward. Takes a few risks in defensive areas. A good back up but not in Eardley’s class just yet.
Toffolo 7.5 Standard performance from him at the moment

Chapman 6.5 Not surprisingly the 18 year old looked better in a match against U21’s. We just need to be patient, he will become an important player before all that long.
Hesketh 6.5 If he can get match fit might become a key player. Faded after promising start.
Akinde 7.0 If Walker had finished the goal as coolly as that (the one from Toffolo’s great cross that took the linesman by surprise), no one would even be worried if he did nothing else. Needs to do more than anyone else to avoid criticism for some reason.
