Rate The Players v Bradford City

Palmer - 8 - Again met everything he faced and commanded his box well, improved distribution too.
Eyoma - 7 - Composed on the ball and defended well in open play, some good through balls. Could perhaps help more with set piece issues?
Montsma - 7 - More of the same really. Generally impressive and a good finish. Does worry me slightly sometimes.
Jackson - 6.5 - Stood up well and some important headers.
Melbourne - 6.5 - Good shout for his spot back, generally solid and some good linkup.
Grant - 7.5 - Two goals from his set pieces and some clever play.
McGrandles - 7 - Good pressing and some inventive play, looks comfortable on the ball as you’d expect.
Jones - 7.5 - What a strike! Saw plenty of his linkup this time too!
Anderson - 8 - Great performance although goals/assists won’t show it. Uses his pace to far greater effect now. Typical box to box display but much more interplay and final product than previous years.
Morton - 7.5 - Really pleased he got that late goal, deserved it for some tireless play, always an option.
Scully - 7 - Again a threat on the counter and should have had another. Faded a little but the game was won.

Howarth - 6 - Tried some clever things but didn’t quite come off. Clearly a pretty raw gamble but could be a useful alternative option. Hard to see where all these wide options fit in, especially if Morton is forced wide to accommodate Hopper. Not that I’m complaining!

Poor opposition but you can only beat what's in front of you and that was emphatic

Palmer 7.5 Controls his area really well and makes himself look big to the attackers. Couple of very brave close range saves.

Eyoma 7 Decent contribution
Jackson 7 Largely untroubled except on their set plays
Montsma 7.5 Similar to Jackson but gets the extra .5 for a side foot volleyed goal which isn't something you often say about one of our central defenders
Melbourne 6.5 Did nothing wrong and contributed

Grant 7.5 Three great assists. That pull down and pass for Morton was International class

Jones 8 My MOM. Sensational goal and a fine all action performance
McGrandless 7 Does a lot of work anonymously. I think his performances across the season might go quite a bit under the radar.

Anderson 7.5 Worried their defence constantly. A little bit more dynamic and thoughtful than previously
Scully 7 Hard working and a decent follow up for his goal

Morton 7 Also worked his socks off (literally!!). Really pleased he got his goal

Howarth 6 Difficult to make a mark when the team were largely playing the last twenty minutes out.

Very difficult one to rate. A fantastic result and some great play at times, but I was left thinking we can play much better over the full 90 minutes. Still...

Palmer: 7.5 Only one real tough one to block, but tonight he did what I have been wanting him to do: he came off his line to catch the ball. Commanding.
Eyoma: 7 Making the right-back spot his own, tough for Aaron Lewis to get a game while he keeps performing like this.
Montsma: 7.5 Always wants the ball, which is not always a good thing - misplaces a good number of passes out of defence. Another well-taken goal, not to be sniffed at. Going to be very good.
Jackson: 6.5 Another good shift, although the yellow card was a bit unnecessary at 4-0 up.
Melbourne: 6.5 Another competent performance, part of a solid defence.
Grant: 8 So important for our set pieces, has a hand in everything else. Has really raised his game this season.
McGrandles: 7 Buzzed around and showed some good touches, but I wish he would tackle - perhaps he is not supposed to? Feel he is on the edge of a much better performance.
Jones: 8 Very good again, got his goal, looks likely to score plenty like that.
Anderson: 8 Looked too good for a L2 defence, perhaps indicating how his development has mirrored the club's rise through the divisions.
Morton: 7 Had a very tough evening, was manhandled constantly. Stuck to his task and found acres of space to score.
Scully: 7 Another goal, and always looks dangerous. Could score 20+ this season, we need to offer a new contract as soon as we have some financial certainty.

Howarth: 5.5 Gave the ball away a few times, never got into a game that was admittedly dead.

Another fine team performance, if a strange one having put the game out of sight first half and cruised through the second, against a poor side from a league below, when we switched on the class they were blown away.
Palmer - 7 - another great point blank save, growing in confidence dealing with crosses and working with the defence.
Eyoma - 7.5 - worked the right flank well again with Harry A.
Montsma - 7 - still a work in progress and decision making occasionally suspect, but a real prospect. 2nd goal, 2nd quality finish.
Jackson - 7.5 - holds the back 4, they're still vulnerable to set pieces.
Melbourne - 7 - slightly less effective than Eyoma and in a real battle with Roughan for a regular start.
Grant-8 - really starting to blossom in this team, work rate improved phenominally and effectively applying his technical skills, combined superbly with Bridcutt for the 5th.
McGrandles - 8 - grafts, runs, gets forward, defends, passes.
Jones - 8 - if McGrandles doesn't get you, Jones will - and capped with a superb first goal.
Anderson - 8 - punished Bradford who seemed keen on passing to him. Hope injury is minor.
Morton - 7 - at times seemed isolated and on a different wavelength but kept working, typified when switched to right, tracking a Bradford player for half the length of the pitch before making a good tackle. Will be better for that first goal.
Scully - 7.5 - snaffled a goal, drove Bradford to distraction, was fading before subbed but the work he put in was typical of Appleton's Heavy Metal Imps

Howarth - 6 - buzzed and strived, didn't quite look the level of some of the team but that will be worked on.

Shout out for Bridcutt, good to see him back, relishing a tackle and a pass, is there a classier midfielder in this league?
