Even if it wasn't a Midlands derby, the criteria which Lineker specifically outlined before on how they choose the running order meant the Villa game should have been on before the Brighton game.

Werner really is hopeless, completely unimpressed with Chelsea attack. Giroud wipes the floor with them but sits on the bench. Boring crap game from two vastly overrated teams.

Werner is quite a good player but he's a rotten finisher, despite his good record in Germany. I remember him at the world cup two years ago where he couldn't hit a barn door, he just has no composure. Not an especially good signing for the money IMO.

And therein lies the problem.
The refs are part of the footballing establishment and are beyond critisicm, and a swipe at the ref is a swipe at the hierarchy of the game.
How on earth can standards be raised if they are protected from the reality that many of them are not up to standard.

I would also add that the charge of bringing the game into direpute is an absolute nonsense and to put the FA beyond criticism is to protect their bad practise.
