One Year No Beer

I can't go weeks at a time, if I can get through a week Monday to Thursday that would be big for me! Problem is for me is there's always something going on, it's hard to escape it. I find it very hard to not drink if everyone else is. Myself and a few friends have gotten into a Friday night darts routine for the last year, but to be honest it's just too much fun so I can't abstain!

My only goal at the moment is to cut out midweek drinking, I am fond of a bottle of wine on a regular basis. I guess the only thing going for me drink wise is I never drink the harder stuff, just not a fan. Beer and wine, that's all. Sure doesn't help when your trying to shed some pounds though, that's for sure!

It was the kids that changed things for me. All of my socialising included alcohol before the kids were born.

Stepping out of that bubble was eye opening for me. So many of the people I used to hang out with are functioning alcoholics. I have a few mates who are in AA too and one that's already passed on due to alcohol related issues. He was 38 years old.

I think at this moment in my life I'm not really looking to ditch the booze, I enjoy the social aspect of drinking and without pubs/bars I would probably rarely go out. I also play darts on a Monday night and it's always good fun when having a few with the rest of the crowd. If I find myself a Mrs then I'm sure I'd happily cut it out. Went through a rough patch last year and was getting pissed about 4 times a week, just as a way of numbing myself. Vile habit to get into really.

I'm also 7 days in. Must admit a few nights ago I'd have loved a nice red wine.

My dry month ends the day of the Ipswich match as I'm in corporate for that, free drink, so would be silly to pay that much and not enjoy a few.

Might then go back dry until my birthday in Feb.
