There was a good demonstration of loyal support by the Newcastle fans in our last game of the season, when Newcastle gave 100% and played a good game against Arsenal, but still went down by a score of 1-0 – but the fans supported the players and the manager throughout the 90 minutes, and even after the game as the players took a lap of honor, and that was after what was a disastrous season in the Premier League.

And we have recently learned that Alan Pardew will be retained as manager, and he’s now had one very good season on Tyneside and one very bad season – so in baseball terms he’s batting 0.500, which isn’t too bad.
Newcastle fans had every right to be upset at what turned out to be just an awful season, when of all things we ended up fighting relegation, and if Wigan hadn’t slumped in their final three games we could even have seen the drop for the second time in only four years.
But we want to see a successful side next season, and we already have some good players in the side, and we are now five good players better off since January.
And since we were relegated in 2009, that’s the first disappointing season we’ve really had, after brilliantly winning the Championship with a massive 102 points in 2010 – compare that to the 87 points Cardiff won the title with this season.
And in our first season back we were a respectable 12th, and if we hadn’t let in three goals against West Brom in the final 30 minutes of the season, we’d have finished up in 9th place.
And in the following year we were 5th, which was last year, and back into Europe, and that’s the best we’ve done since Bobby Robson was managing the club back in 2004, when he was fired because 5th just wasn’t good enough.
Yeah – right.
But last season was just horrendous and not good for the health of Geordie fans for sure, and Newcastle did have a lot of injuries to some top players like Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor, and we lost Demba Ba in January and didn’t replace him.
Shades of when Andy Carroll left two years ago – and Newcastle must learn from their previous mistakes.
Of course fans have the right to think what they like, but since we want Newcastle to be successful again next year, we’ll be supporting Alan Pardew, his coaches and all the players.
That’s only because we want Newcastle to be successful again, and with a lot of us older fans, time is now starting to run out, after all.
