My son who does the Gillingham Legends artwork across social media has just released his brand new book - Gillingham Legends 'The Good, the Bad & the Quirky'.

The book is something different and focuses on the more quirky, bizarre and amusing things (of which there are many) to happen to Gillingham Football Club throughout its long history.

It's been a long time coming, he’s worked very hard on it for over a year now, having done tonnes of research. It’s an A5 hardback with 208 pages, jam packed with over 500 original images and stories of many different strange and comical incidents involving the club since it began in 1893.

Moments like the Bondz N'Gala transfer, the Bryant shooting, Wolf from Gladiators, Peter Beardsley, sets of tracksuits etc, plus much much more are all covered.

He describes it as ‘Home of the Shouting Men’ meets ‘Brian Moore’s Head’

You can buy this now for just £20 with free p&p from - www.gillinghamlegends.com

There's an article in the book about when Brighton shared our ground, and I personally remember that they were very anti-Gills some of their fans with their chanting.
It says in the book that their worst gate was 1,025! Hmm, I wonder where all those extra fans they get today were then?

I would not be surprised if there fan base was in part Boycotting home matches .Think about it would you want to attend home games at Crawley for example?

Love the drawing of Hess “escorting” the female streaker off the pitch at MK.

That moment changed the whole energy of the game, if I remember correctly. I felt we were lucky to only be 1-0 down, but she made Hess angry and suddenly the whole team was better!

I think we'd take more than a 1,000 there if we were doing ok, but Brighton's fan base has always been greater than ours traditionally so I would expect them to take more on a like for like basis.

What a tremendous looking book! Noted and will get around to ordering one at some point. Absolutely love those graphics!

I seem to recall that the RE gave as good as they got. The extra fans come from the plastic factory in Hove.

Thanks for your kind words folks, so much appreciated by him. He's really worked so hard to produce this book and it's so worth it for him to get such a positive response.

I don't know where he's managed to get some of these fascinating facts and figures from, for example: Prince Harry playing football for his local pub side wearing Gills socks. The "No Appearance 11" which is a whole team of signed professionals who never played a game for us. Gills having to play 6 games in 7 days over Christmas one year! Can you imagine that today when they moan about having to play 3 games in 7 days. No neither can I. Anyway, thanks again and hope you enjoy it those that get a copy.

Living down this way, it is really annoying how many came out of the wood work. Many of them also actively support other clubs, like Tottenham and Arsenal.

To be fair to the die hards they backed their club at their lowest ebb and now seeing the fruits of endeavors. I do sometimes wonder of the same had happened to us, would we have come back as they did

Well that's what I was alluding to when I said about their gates now compared to back then Lozzy. I always remember when we won promotion in 1996, the last game of the season at home we beat Scarborough in front of around 11,000. Their group of about 40 fans were singing to us "where were you when you were sh*t" which is the first time I'd heard that. Pretty appropriate now in your neck of the woods.
