Terry McPhillips is hoping to make at least one new addition this week as Blackpool continue their exhaustive search for attacking reinforcements.
The Seasiders missed out on a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer for MK Dons forward Chuks Aneke on deadline day last week.
They did bring in Derby County midfielder Callum Guy but McPhillips still wants extra quality in attack following a third straight 0-0 away draw at Walsall on Saturday.
He revealed:“There are a couple on the radar hopefully coming in this week.
“We signed Callum Guy. He’s a good lad and he’s going to add even more energy. He puts a foot in and can nick a goal, so he’ll play on Tuesday (in tonight’s EFL Trophy opener at Macclesfield Town). “If we can get another striker in for free we will do. “We just missed out on one who would have been a major coup for us, but it never happened so it doesn’t matter. We move on but we’re still looking.”
Blackpool have impressed defensively, conceding just three goals in six League One games. It is at the other end of the pitch where they are currently lacking, having netted just four times.
McPhillips admits it is a problem but believes the goals will eventually come.
“We’re still getting to know each other,” he said. “The lads who started at Walsall had a right good go. “Obviously we didn’t score but did we make a gilt-edged chance? “I thought Joe Dodoo had a good first-half chance from a pull-back. Mark Cullen’s had that turn and hit, and we’ve had some set-plays. “We haven’t quite done enough but it wasn’t for the want of trying. We just didn’t have that quality in the final third.” Pool are likely to use tonight’s first Group B match at Moss Rose as an opportunity to make wholesale changes.
McPhillips added: “When we play Macclesfield everyone else will have an opportunity. “We’re still trying to find out what the best team is, build relationships and trust each other with the football and who does what. But we’re getting closer. “Some of the lads who didn’t play will get a chance on Tuesday. “It’s definitely a good opportunity for all the other lads to stake their claim, certainly the lads in the forward positions, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Chuks Aneke - that would have been a decent signing. I wonder if he is out of contract?

Blackpool have agreed a deal to sign non-league star Yusifu Ceesay after he impressed on trial in pre-season, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Ceesay, who is plying his trade at Evo-Stik Southern Central division side Alvechurch, enjoyed a spell on trial at Blackpool earlier this summer and he caught the eye during his stint at Bloomfield Road.

The 23-year-old featured in the pre-season friendly with Nantwich and created a goal for Blackpool in the game.
The skilful attacker impressed for Alvechurch last season, helping them win promotion from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division One South.
Blackpool have continued to keep tabs on Ceesay and they have now offered him a deal to move into the professional ranks.
Ceesay is set to sign a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months with Blackpool and he is set to go straight into the first-team squad.

Blackpool are currently without a manager with interim boss Terry McPhillips currently in charge following the departure of Gary Bowyer just one game into the new season.
