New captain for England test side

Okay. It wasn't really a big surprise but some of us felt a loss. Cooke has been one of our most successful test captains. But who next ? Root ? Stokes ? Bairstow ? Broad ? Jimmy ? We've destroyed so many players with the pressure of capacity. It's a big deal in cricket.

It will be Root, I'd rather it wasn't for another couple of years, but can't see an alternative. As you say, a big job, spinners not really cutting it, and Anderson coming to the end of his test career.

Yes big steps to follow but lots of talent in the squad. But in cricket a captaincy is not a minor role is major. Worried that Joe who is a happy go lucky chap isn't ready. Just my thoughts out loud. Experiences from Freddy and KP shows how the ECB get it wrong.

Has to be Root and I think he has enough about him to cope with the extra pressure. The fact that we have realistic alternatives is a bonus though!
