New analyst

Vital Champions League
I saw a post recently on social media from a Morcambe account saying their head of first team analysis, Charlie Ennis, is joining us to join us as defensive organisation analyst and that has been confirmed on LinkedIn.

Interesting to see we are hiring someone focused soley on analysing specific parts of the game. I wonder if we have or are planning to hire analysts for other specific areas.

My first thought was Gormal and Ennis probably worked together in the past if they were both coming from Morecambe but it seems based on their LinkedIn pages that there wasn't must cross over as Ennis only arrived as Gormal left.

We know the Danson family business in analytics and Maloney has mentioned how he wants to bring more of that in. Looking at the clubs LinkedIn page we seem to be building up a department that will have analysts specialising in different areas:
- Match Day
- Defensive
- Possession
- Recruitment
- U21's
- Academy

Analysts? Analysts? I thought we were supposed to just lump it up to two wingers, who then knocked it into the box for our twin strike force to stick it in the onion bag. :hmmm:

:whist:

You mean when the game was simple and far more exciting to watch
Put down your rose tinted specs Zakky.

I remember lots of great football from years ago ... and I remember lots of dross as well.

Likewise, some of the best football I've ever watched at the DW was under the tippy-tappy style of Senor Martinez ... and I accept that the same goes for some of the most frustrating ... and yes, dullest.

Analysts are just the way forward. Same as cricket and coaches.

When we talk about how beneficial data analytics in football can be we just have to look at Brentford. Their owner's businesses were built on analysing data and after he introduced it to the club 20 years ago they've gone from strength to strength on and off the pitch.

Everyone has tried to jump on that bandwagon since but it's not easy to get it right. With the Danson families expertise in the field hopefully they'll be better positioned than most to try and make it work for us.

Who used to work for Bloom, the Brighton owner.
Both schooled in betting analytics
Bloom and Benham don't get on anymore.

It's not so funny

I think Benham got into football first, I imagine the success he was getting using analytics at Brentford encouraged Bloom to take the plunge and implement the same model.

I knew a couple of people who were fans of either club before Brenham and Bloom arrived, if you'd have told them 20 years ago where they'd be now i don't think they'd have believed it was even possible.

Wish we were going to announce a mixture of that and passing the ball around when essential. If there was an analyst studying entertainment value from this season then the results would be interesting. Garbage. Boring. Dull. Negative. Turgid. Yawn inducing trash.

I'll agree that for some - even much - of many games, we did see lots of that. However, in most games, we also saw glimpses of how the manager wanted us to play.

For a number of reasons, we weren't able to maintain that standard throughout a game, but nevertheless, it was there ... in amongst all those other less appealing aspects.

In the past few games, maybe because the pressure has been off a little, we've shown much, much more of the exciting, swift interchange passing that should be the bar for next season.

I'd think more of your opinion re the shit stuff if you acknowledged the existence of the good stuff.

You may be correct
Benham worked for Blooms betting/analytics business.
Bloom's family have been owners of Bright over a few generations

Obviously there is something there with the two fantastic away wins and I can see where fans of the possession based passing game are coming from and on occasions we have looked far better out wide with Jonesy having a pretty good season. Would have been better if kept in the side as a wide man rather than dropped , benched, substituted or playing wing back.
Those glimses though have been few and far between and overall the season has been a total borefest. Maybe the anylyst will identify this themselves.

The door was open ... but you walked straight past and never even glanced inside.

😥
