Thanks Gary,
This one certainly shows a slip in performance from certain players, and that we're tougher than the media in our marking.
I suspect that logically we should expect that; we're more invested in their performances than almost all the media and our emotions can be more extreme and so will our scoring by comparison.

A big thanks again Gary for your hard work, love the reading.

In the Seasons Ave Table...3 out of the back 4 plus the GK in the top 5, says something eh!

And VdV has played 11 games less. So a much higher average per game.

It just shows you how Angeball highlights defenders and the GK more than the forwards. The defenders need to make more recoveries giving them a bigger spotlight than any other style of football. And, of course, Vicario is called upon almost every game for a key stop.

We need another 2 CBs with similar characteristics to VdV to make this work. The video on Ange's tactics I posted on the AP - Manager Thread gives a good overview of why VdV is so effective and why our record without him is substantially poorer than when he plays.

Dragusin may have those skills.

It is amazing what you can pull out of stats such as these. Contributions such as this thread make for great discussion and an interesting forum.

next season, we may find that Phillips will be one of those two - reports from Plymouth suggest he may well be a real star in the making.

I thought it might be interesting to compare the ratings of the players from the first 10 games - our purple patch this season - with the ratings from the last 10 games, as it's the same, core group of players who have appeared in both.

The first two columns show the first 10 games; the last two columns show the last 10 games.

No Maddison?

Interesting that only Skipp and Richarlison have improved their ratings with the former only marginal over 1 game. VdV and Johnson are pretty consistent.

I would put the ratings from the first 10 games down to the euphoria surrounding our unbelievable start. I'd handicap it by 1.5-2.

We've had 19 different combinations for our midfield and that points to one of the issues we had no control over the ability to pick a consistent line-up that could learn to play together....

Playing week in week out allows you to learn their game, and they learn yours. It's about knowing what you're most likely to do, where you are most likely to be and when and vice versa - we have not had that opportunity this season..and so that also hamstrings showing consistency and improvement..

Given we are so embryonic; next season (assuming we don't go through the same injury madness and a few less international breaks) my money would be on us playing and rating far more consistently.

I wouldn't. The first 10 games we played really well. Maybe not for 90 minutes but we bossed every single second half. And the quality of football, I'd say, was at a higher level, particularly building the play from out of defence.

I wouldn't argue with that but I still think there was a honeymoon effect.

As there appears to be an appetite for it after all here's the players' ratings against Newcastle. Thanks to everyone for their input.

I'll publish the seasonal averages after the NLD.

Vicario won the MotM with 4 votes from Johnson with 3.

The season's averages (excluding cup games). Minimum requirement for the top table is 5 games.

For the purposes of the tables a player's rating for any match is only included if they have played at least 45 minutes in that match.
