Match Thread: Notts County v Lincoln City

I watched the game today in the home stand behind the dugouts. This was apparently the best that Notts County have played for a long time according to those sat around me. Their new players certainly seemed to make an impression.

I felt it was a point gained today. The ref was awful. From my seat, it wasn't a penalty for Notts County or for Lincoln. However, I felt that Notts County should have had a penalty at the end.

The home supporters were very worried about Akinde and his influence on the game. It was interesting to hear peoples thoughts from a non Imps perspective.

I would take the point. 5 from 3 away games is good. We are in a great position.

Grimes could occupy two defenders, hold the ball up and run the channels better than Akinde?
May be but Grimes scored goals,Akinde couldn't hit a barn door at the moment,I've not seen him strike the ball cleanly yet always seems to scuff a shot,he's our main striker so should be scoring, maybe if he was played differently he would be better

By reading the majority of the posts on here you would think we had lost. A point away from home is always a good point. We now need to win our next two home games to take control of the situation again.
I am not Akindes greatest fan but I have to defend the guy. His strike rate from the penalty spot compares well against any penalty taker elsewhere. He has aso had to work his socks of as a lone front man in all the recent away games and done a good job.
Come on everybody get behind the lads we are now reaching the real business end of the season and every player wearing the shirt needs our backing.

Dragged myself off my sick bed to come today. Should have really stayed in bed as really not good.

County should have won this. An exceptionally poor display. Exceptionally poor. No amount of Night Nurse could give an hallucinogenic experience to make it in to anything other.

To quote a former Imps Penalty Specialist, in the football league, and a good friend of mine. "Those sorts of penalties look great when you get them right....cock it up and you look like a total donkey. Just belt it."

To summarise in three words.

Very poor performance.
If you could let us know his name, we can check his success rate at taking penalties and see if his advice is worth listening to or not. Although it does seem very professional expert advice I must admit.

Rhead's probably missed more penalties doing the standard type of penalty kick so I'm not exactly sure what the debate is here?

DC said he's missed 4 in 60 or something. 60 seems high, but even if it's 4 in 40 it's a good return.

Can any statistician tell me how many shots on target we have had in the last ten games. It seems about two a game to me as it was today.
I can't, but we average about 6 shots a match according to Experimental 361 to 2-4 in amongst that won't be too far off.

Thought it was a fair point but ultimately disappointing not to win it at the death.

County were rejuvenated and played with great spirit, they have to else they are down. Nice to get back onto home soil now with 3 out of 4 at home and an opportunity to stake our claim for promotion.

Where’s Grimes now just out of interest?

Thought DC got it wrong today, too much change up top. Rowe has looked very dangerous "in the hole", switched wide for McCartan (did little) In place of Pett, Anderson made way for Andrade (nicely taken goal. None of this did us any good offensively, apart from the moment of quality from Bruno. No forward momentum from the middle of the park either, don't think Freck and O'Connor can be in the same side they just lack pace.
A point away is always a good one, but I'm not buying County being a decent side. For big parts of the game we made them look decent.
Thought Akinde did alright on the whole, but the penalty miss is a shocker. Yes, players miss pens but to miss the goal completely is criminal.
The Ref was just plain awful for both sides.

As always an away point is a good point, full stop.

(Have seen both penalty decisions, my opinion is neither were penalties)

Take those out of the equation and a 1-0 away win would have been ours.

Think we have got through a difficult string of games in good shape.

One defeat in fourteen and four of next six at home.

We could be in a worse position. Everyone else in the league IS in a worse position.

Start of the season most of us would have snapped your hand off for a point at Notts. Despite all their troubles they’ve still got good players

Blooming heck, we gain a point away at a side that sounds like they have realised the need to avoid dropping out of the league.

An away point - and we are still the only team achieving an average of two points a game, two points clear and we have a game in hand.

On form, perhaps it looked like we should have won. If every game went according to form, I wouldn't be working for a living, I'd have made a killing at the bookies....

Onto the next game, with a little work on the training ground to get the team more used to each other...

Come on you Imps!!!!!!!!!!! !!! !!! ©

And, for comparison, MK Dons lost 3 - 1 away today, to the team below them. Our previous away game we drew at Bury....

Whilst we may not be winning every game, there are many sides doing less well than us. And we have one loss in 14...?

Come on you Imps let's carry on doing well!!!!! !! !!! ©

Grimes for Akinde every day of the week.

I don’t hate him, far from it .... I just don’t rate him.

Is this the same Ashley Grimes who was an embarrassment in the final game of the season against Aldershot back in 2011. In all my years watching the Imps I have never seen such a poor, lazy and couldn’t care less attitude from a player.
Give me Akinde over Grimes every day of the week....

Kanyuka was class I remember cheering when he finally got sent off.

Very frustrating day. We didn't play well at all, but if Akinde puts that penalty away then we go home happy.

I like Akinde. I think he has good qualities, some of which he showed down the channels today. I spent a lot of the first half defending him to the old man sat next to me, who kept sighing and calling him lazy. The same man also said "his time is up" after the penalty miss, which is obviously daft.

However, people who are frustrated with him have good reason to be. I'm sure he'll continue to contribute well for the rest of the season, but I don't think he should be our first choice striker next season, regardless of whether we get promoted or not.
