Match Thread: Lincoln City v Reading

Missed Ethan in the middle
Our control of the ball isn’t where it needed to be to give us a break in how the game was being controlled by Reading
History will say we got a point like Reading so we move on to the Rams

FT. Terrific game for the neutrals but not for the coaches. Reading deserved to win it as they clearly had better basics, more physicality and more desire to win the ball and attack. We were exactly the opposite. Two or three players were fighting for the ball and played fairly decently, but we were so poor at the basics, lacked pressing, passing was awful and pressurised, no composure and no movement to open the game up and create something. Mandroiu fought hard and did a couple of pretty good passes in the last twenty minutes. Two things I hoped to see under Skuballa by now was better passing and better off-the-ball movement, but we seem to have gone back into our negative, defensive shell. I don’t hold out much hope against at Derby or Bolton, or evenNorthampton for that matter. On the positive side, we are unbeaten in five league games 👏👏

We were lucky to escape with the point. Point which we should respect.

We're missing some key players which doesn't help.
But it also doesn't change the fact that we're rubbish going forward.
Can't see much difference between this ,,entertainment'' and the one we were served under previous manager for which he was heavily critisised.

Not a lot any manager is gona change with what we’ve got
We’ve got players upfront who let’s be honest wouldn’t be more than bench warmers here and more suited to NL football at this stage of their careers

Just listened to The Head Coach interview - he really does tell it like it is! We worked had but sometimes not in the bightest way! On the plus side he said Reeco is a week/10 days away from rejoining the main group in training

We didn't seem to try and keep possession today, which I think had been a notable difference in MS previous league games. We immediately tried the killer pass, which never worked and provided no second ball chances. Maybe Reading just rattled our game plan as they were very impressive both with and without the ball. They quickly crowded out any player in the final third and they broke very quickly. At least we held out for a point. We are desperately lacking up front (as well as Makama has done) and we probably need an upgrade at left wingback too.

Why is our lone striker always 40 yards away from any of our other players? What is he meant to do?

That was as bad as any of the multitude of dismal home draws under Kennedy. I know we're missing a few players but that doesn't excuse such a lack of intensity and positive intention.

Is Tom Shaw a coach or a cheerleader?

Way out of his depth that’s for sure ….. I’ve always had this nagging fear that we’d rue not re-appointing the Messiah.

I think in the first 10-15 minutes there was a plan, but Reading soon nullified it.

Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say the opposition were really good.

The frustration for me is that we played for 75+ minutes without any discernible strategy.

Part of that is due to lack of options, I understand that.

But I was hoping Skubala would change something, and he never did. The subs didn’t have any impact.

Based on the performance, it’s very much a point gained. Reading played much better than their league position suggests.

At the same time, I feel with a bit more ambition and positivity, that could’ve been 3 points. Their defence was susceptible, but we didn’t threaten enough to make them feel shaky.

Onto Derby.

Poor display, good point.

I just don’t think a 5-2-3 is conducive to playing fluid football, and hopefully as time progresses we play a 4-3-3 which is more lucrative for ball rentention. Don’t want to seem too critical but as an attacking threat we are truly absymal.

I know there was an evening with Jez in the week which was well received, but interesting to know if it was discussed why we recruited a certain type of team to then want to play attacking football? These players aren’t technical and cannot put together attacking moves together. Thankfully at present the defence continues to stands firm and keeps us in the game.

The board are astute, they know they couldn’t bring Skubala in request a brand of football without the tools to deliver. There will be healthy changes in January I am certain of that. Do we have a decision with Jensen, great shot stopper can’t kick or get the game moving? Interesting times.
