A police spokesperson said: "We are investigating an alleged racist hate crime during last night's football match between Blackpool FC and Coventry City FC.
"It was reported a racist comment was made by a fan towards a Coventry player taking a throw-in close to the dugout during the second-half.
"The matter was reported to the fourth official, Coventry FC and Blackpool FC, with the police later informed."
