Liverpool into FA Cup final
FT: Man City 2-3 Liverpool

It is a first FA Cup final for Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool keep alive their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple.

For Manchester City, the dream of a treble is over but there's still the chance of a Premier League-Champions League double.

'City left themselves too much to do'
FT: Man City 2-3 Liverpool

Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC One

It's always a treat when these two sides play.

City just left themselves too much to do - credit them for the second half, much better - but Liverpool were in a world of their own in their first half.

Their performance in that first half was just too good for City.

'Liverpool were the better team'
FT: Man City 2-3 Liverpool

Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on BBC One

Liverpool had the game won in the first half down to their brilliance but also City were not alive, which I've not said for a while.

In the second half they upped the tempo. It looked more like the City we recognise. It wasn't enough today but in the end Liverpool were the better team.

Danny Murphy

Incredible isn't it? The level of consistency. It doesn't matter what level of opposition you face if you get in front of a game it is very hard against Liverpool.

They don't always play well but still get over the line.

Keeper choices 'turned out to be difference'
FT: Man City 2-3 Liverpool

Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Liverpool were certainly gifted one goal and I think the goalkeeper should have done better with the other two as well.

Big decisions from Jurgen Klopp in terms of his team selection have helped win the game because there's no doubt he played his number one goalkeeper.

Manchester City didn't and, ultimately, their goalkeeper has made mistakes which have cost them. Alisson in that second half, pulled off two very good saves - one, the one-on-one from Jesus, was superb.

And that's what's turned out to be the difference.

'We will fight for quadruple' - Mane
FT: Man City 2-3 Liverpool

Liverpool double goalscorer Sadio Mane to BBC One:

"Today is special - we were playing one of the best teams in the world. To win this kind of game, especially in a semi-final, is a big, big, big win.

"We were very pleased to win and qualify for the final.

"We started very well, everybody started on the front foot - for my first goal the goalkeeper made a mistake but I think we pushed him to make that mistake. That is our style and I think that made the difference."

On the possible quadruple: "We have a lot of games to go and we will try to do our best - it's our dream for sure and we will fight for it."

It was much, much better in that second half from City.

You can imagine what Pep said at half-time and they responded.

They got the early goal they so needed but then Liverpool did really well in killing the game and taking the pace out of it.

The thing I was surprised was that Pep didn't make a substitution earlier.

But Liverpool deserved it.

'A perfect first half'
FT: Man City 2-3 Liverpool

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, speaking to BBC Sport: "We made it very difficult for ourselves in the end. We created a chance to finish the game. When they scored their first goal quite early in the second half it gives them a boost but overall we are happy to go to the final.

"It is about scoring goals and that is what we did in the first half. A perfect first half in that case but we pay City, the champions of England at the moment and it is always going to be tough.

"There are moments you will have to suffer. You have to show a lot of strength and togetherness. It was intense like the previous game against each other but we should have killed the game off.

"We go to the final now, we haven't won anything at the moment but it is a big step for us as a group. It is the only trophy we didn't win so we will give it a go."

On Ibrahima Konate: "He has made a great impact, he is working hard every day. He has to perform when he is called upon and he is doing just that."

If we are lucky enough to beat Real Madrid and similar for the Dips then meeting a full strength City team might just be a different matter

Guardiola on Liverpool's second goal
"It was an accident. One of the strong points is try to play [out] and as a keeper he has this quality. It was an accident and he will learn for the future.. When the ball is there it can always happen.

"I have spoken with the team not him personally but he is strong."

Guardiola: We gave everything
"We gave everything after a tough first half. For the first goal, the set pieces they are very, very strong. The second was an accident. Difficult to come back but they did it perfectly in the second half.

"Our momentum was there in the second half. We had the chances to equalise. It was a difficult fixture because we came from somewhere like only we know where we came from, with games we had and the last five or six days days away and people with the problems. The guys put in a lot of pride in the second half."

We were poor in the first half and in the end, that was enough. Well done to Liverpoool, we were not at the races today.

Liverpool took FA cup seriously and our PL latest draw against dippers suggest that they are going to give us a tough time till the final game of the season to decide the title winner. They are not going to slow down in PL , since they got luckier with CL opponents in QF and SF they are now on full throttle to take PL title from our hands. Any slips in our build up like yesterday’s horror goal keeping is going to put an end to our title hopes. No disrespect to steffen.

we are also not good without De Bruyne suddenly. Even though the final seven games looks easier compared to Liverpool’s fixtures.Pep cannot afford to play second string teams to defend our PL title.

That is a very good summation

I think we are better than them but what we are not good at is making too many changes to the team as it takes time to settle down and get used to who you have around you, when you just change one or two no problem and add to the fact that some of the players brought in have were not match fit having only played a handful of games throughout the season and probably none of them more than three games strung together.

It was a gamble not to risk players when the real prize is still out there.

Pep took a gamble and it did not pay off. The hard away CL fixture affected his thinking especially given the underlying theme of the absence of that trophy in the club’s cabinet.
