Johnny On The Spot: #NORMAL SERVICE RESUMED. The importance of this win in the scheme of things cannot be over emphasised enough. A lengthy injury list of club legends, post a second defeat of the 2018-19 campaign ahead of a combative run of fixtures into Christmas, The Blues simply had to deliver. Furthermore, this season’s Champions League is wide open. Winning Group F following that opening defeat to Lyon is a fine achievement. However, finishing first or second this year, you can expect to face strong opposition. Atletico Madrid, Schalke, Roma and Ajax lie in wait for us.

Match Day 6 often serves up none event contests but this enjoyable game transpired to be far from it. Pep Guardiola, opting for respectful game management in the closing stages, asserted at his pre-match presser that Hoffenheim are a dangerous side. This was borne out from the kick off and a predominantly youthful City side were slow out of the blocks. Coughing up possession far too readily, The Blues paid the price for a sluggish start by conceding a soft penalty to the Bundesliga visitors which was coolly dispatched. City responded by pressing higher up the pitch but Hoffenheim continued to threaten. The Centurions, untidy and unlucky in equal measure rattled the woodwork twice in the first half but worryingly, our forwards were afforded no protection from the reticent Swedish referee.

Pep-talk banked, City took the handbrake off in the second period following the tactical introduction of the jet-heeled Kyle Walker and served up an entertaining if profligate attack against defence show in which Julian Nagelsmann’s men eagerly played their part until the final whistle. JB’s Man of the Match is game changer Leroy Sané who inspired this victory, flooding spirited confidence through his young team-mates. Der Bomber delivered fizzing, sparkling classic wing play, constantly squaring up his opponent before tearing at him. Sign him up, Txiki.

Still looking for attendance. Uefa are crap at the detail. BBC are reliant on their info, so they haven’t got it either.

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane on BT Sport: "We had some good moments, we made life hard for ourselves but it was a really good game. I was thinking of whether to shoot or not from the free-kick, it was quite a distance. It was quite lucky.

"We had enough chances in the second half to make the game quiet, I don't know what happened with the three-on-one, I passed it to Bernardo Silva and he had a tap-in...I wanted an assist!"

Julian Nagelsmann: “I’m proud of the way we have played in the Champions League.
“As a newcomer to the Champions League, we’ve played well. We’ve done a lot for the club and we hope to do more of this in the future.”

Great game to watch, felt a bit like a preseason game with the lineup in the first half, Walker and Delph shored us up well.

What a hit from Sane, hope we get to see him hit more freekicks.

How did we manage not to score that 3 on 1?

Shame Foden's volley was saved.

Oh and Ederson, that save in the first half was brilliant.

Pep Guardiola speaking to BT Sport: "We are in the best 16 and now we are going to see the draw, and arrive at the right moment.
"We started flat because Hoffenheim were so demanding about how they attacked the space and physically they were stronger. Then we started to play. But the result is good - we are first.

"Sane was aggressive. The first goal was incredible but the second was lucky because the control was not quite good, but he finished."

About the counter-attack which failed to result in a goal: "We are young. People in the attack are 21, 22 years old. You need more calm. But it's OK, we are satisfied."

On Phil Foden: "He was incredible. We don’t have any doubts about his quality. He has to compete with David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin de Bruyne etc but he can do everything. He is a fighter, can score goals, has the body shape. He is only 18 years old. We didn't have any doubts that he can play at the top level."

Pep says its not a bad one but its another World Cup related injury imho and I can't see him risking him against the toffees

There's a few of them carrying knocks I think, Bernardo hasn't been right since the last international break, Walker is not 100% either, I'm praying to a god I don't believe in that we don't break Fernandinho. :halo::please:
