Loic Remy - Deal Resurrected?

Platinii - 14/1/2013 22:09
'how many Bentley's can I buy?'
You could get a David Bentley cheap but his wages are something else.

He is on loan in Russia but contracted to Spurs til 2014.

Another point in all this is that we supposedly got £5 million for Demba Ba.

We supposedly offered £8.2 million for Remy. A difference of £3.2 million.

This equates to around £60k a week. Even taking into account of tax and any other costs, just say for arguments sake that it's £50 k a week. that's just EXTRA to what Ba was supposedly getting in wages off us as Remy's wages would have balanced his out.

That extra 50 grand a week we were gonna splash out could have been used partly to renegotiate Ba's contract. Even offering him the 80 grand he's on at Chelsea would have been cheaper.

We could have obliged and been in the pocket to the tune of 500k - £1 million.

my brain spontaneously combusted halfway thru that :c0:

Well it makes the club look a bit naive once again in their transfer dealings. Sell your top scorer and then 2 weeks later youi still haven't replaced him. What movement if any for at least one if not 2 central defenders.
We also need another striker on top of Ba's replacement.
Problem is not too many attractions to joining Newcastle at the moment, league positio, crass coaching and a poor side.

That's 60k a week for one season only though, plus all the shit that goes with paying one man so much more than the rest.

And Ba is not a saleable asset. Once we gave him this big contract that would have been it, whereas Remy has value in him. We could get rid and bring in money if need be.

And what if Ba's tin knees go? 90k a week for 3 years is £13.5million in wages alone.

Ridiculous wage contracts is what strangled us before.

Oh completely agreed. wages have knacked the game full stop and Remy's alone at QPR will be around the same figure with a question mark over his heart and his temperament.

I was just making a point that we were already part way there with Ba in the team and settled to a degree.

As I said before, there's gonna be more than a touch of irony if he does actually join us after all.

Are we looking at a replacement for Best yet?
Have you forgotten that retaining Xisco is like signing another player? Who knows, by the end of the season Xosco could be soring a hat trick in training against Tomkins.

It pays to keep your options open. If he signs for us, he is a star and I wish him well. If he signs for QPR he is a ****.

We seem more interested in the club finances than staying up on here.......we are in the shit and this transfer window seems to be following the usual bullshit pattern.........tick tock

I've been saying this for months. It's a market place, if we want the best we need to compete financially.

We have the ability to compete financially. Do we have the desire to compete financially?

No, as we all know.

The policy is actually good but not plausible if we're the only ones playing by the financial fair play rules.

To compete, we have to change our thinking but not just for the sake of it.

As some have mentioned, is the bloke even worth nigh on £100 k a week? 1 or 2 goals scored this year and a question mark over his desire.

A massive gamble.

If he does join us then he's joining for footballing reasons. It's a win win situation, but if he doesn't, that slimy toad Llambias and all the background staff will need to work their absolute bollocks off to make sure we get someone decent in.

You'd assume that as the scouting operation is an all year round thing, and that they were very aware of Ba's likely departure, then we should surely have at least 5-10 real possible candidates? We only ever seem to have one lined up.

Was just thinking that Plats.

you can just imagine his interview for us or QPR.

His interview here will get him instant hero status whilst his interview there will be full of football cliches.

By all accounts he hasn't really performed in a while has he? Why would that be? Sometimes, what you see is what you get. Is this looking doubtful because QPR have offered a lot more money or because we were having reservations about a deal. Has he had a medical with us? What was the result?

If this defining window ultimately shows Lambias as not the man Ashley should have running this club, that's a huge positive isn't it?
