Lineker & MOTD

Morbid curiosity. That's all it was. I rarely watch MotD , but turned over last night just to see how awful it would be ... and it was.

You have to laugh though at all the MPs who professed to watch it (most of them likely for the first time ever). John Redwood's statement was even more cringeworthy than his attempt at singing in Welsh !

The only affect no punditry could possibly have, is you have to wait longer for a pee or another beer.
It was an improvement on the norm, just put the odd advert break in here and there and it would work wonders for the bladder also.

I don't know how good / bad it was compared to normal as I didn't watch it last night so can't counter your comment on how awful it was ....but somehow I knew you'd not like it, wonder why that was 🤔🤔 possibly similar to why all the so called MP's liked it...🤔🤔

If as JS's post suggests re the increased viewers continue alongside GL's absence then the BBC have a conundrum to solve

Watch it then Jock. Make your own mind up. As balance, when I've watched it previously, it's been pretty awful anyway ... which is why I don't watch regularly.

Might have a gander later...I don't watch it as I'm not a fan of Lineker / Shearer . I did watch it wen we were in the Prem but even that was very frustrating as we usually got the last slot with less than a 2 min highlight unless we were playing Utd or Liverpool ☹️

Its a good job we don't feature on MOTD now, we'd struggle to find 2 minutes of highlights.

The trouble with this country is all the multi millionaire ex footballers, who are now striking and withdrawing their labour.

Striking should be banned, nobody should be allowed to fail to complete their contract.

For clarification, Gary Lineker was a striker for Everton.

A mountain made out of a molehill.

This is an employer, employee issue. Whether he breached his contract, guidelines, or any other terms to split hairs over, I have no idea. Nor give a toss. Clearly the employee believes so and is why they have launched internal disciplinary proceedings to investigate the matter. Linekar believes not, which is his right, and any investigation should establish the truth. This is just the process in any similar sized organisation that is undertaken all the time everyday. Following its conclusion if he’s not happy with the outcome he can seek a tribunal or any other legal action if he feels he’s been wronged.

Those other employees refusing to work because of it, and in support of him and indeed before the facts are established following said investigation, are a disgrace. They should also be facing disciplinary action if there is any breach of contract, guidelines etc. Linekar in my book is a coward and should not be hiding behind these people to fight his battles. He should grow a pair and tell them it’s his issue to fight and they should carry on providing a service paid for by the tax payer. Instead he’s just happy to be photographed grinning like a Cheshire Cat clearly enjoying being the centre of attention and challenging his employee.

As for the issue of free speech - of course he is entitled to it but if employed should also be respectful of any restrictions his employer may place on him - as we all have to (if it’s established there are any) If he’s not happy with that then he should seek alternate employers who are happy for him to virtue signal to his hearts content. As for his actual comment effectively comparing the government to the Nazi regime, it was ludicrous and undermines his disagreement with the policy. However it was just the typical knee jerk hysterical response that’s now expected from him and his ilk, so why people are getting offended, upset or taking any notice of this privileged champagne socialist I’ve no idea.

Fully agree ... I bet Davie wishes he hadn't built that bloody mountain now!

. As for his actual comment effectively comparing the government to the Nazi regime, it was ludicrous and undermines his disagreement with the policy.

I'm sure you know, really, that he didn't actually do this. He likened the words they were using ... not the government themselves. He's factually correct on this.

Surely, the knee jerk response is from Davie ... and of course, whoever has put him up to taking the action. After all, there are many many other examples that have been shown in the past few days where presenters have made political statements yet have faced no action ... though invariably of course, they weren't directed toward the government.

so why people are getting offended, upset or taking any notice of this privileged champagne socialist I’ve no idea.

Hey up. Have I missed summat? Are socialists not allowed to drink champagne any more? Is this another impact of Brexit?

Actually, I fully agree with your comment asking why people are getting offended or upset ... after all, there's no reason for them to do so ... and accordingly, no need for the suspension.

One final one .... "privileged"? Really? I've fucking heard it all now. JRM would be proud of you.

Of course he talks about ‘language’ but he is effectively comparing the rise of Nazism in 30s Germany to a Conservative government policy nigh on a century later. I’ll be honest I’ve no idea if the Nazi party used the word ‘overwhelmed’ (which I guess is what triggered him) not do I suspect does Linekar.

As for knee jerk - his tweet came shortly after the announcement. His suspension came three days later - so I think we can safely establish whose knee was jerking.

According to a witness he has admitted his tweet went a step too far. Maybe he has admitted that privately to his employer but he hasn’t retracted it or admitted so publicly. Of course it doesn’t mean he is in breach of any contract, guideline or other term you choose to use. If he admits that, yet is not contrite and is openly challenging his employer then I would suggest they are well within their rights to investigate it to determine wrong doing. Rightly or wrongly they obviously felt it necessary to suspend him whilst doing so, probably to take him out of the spotlight. However they perhaps didn’t anticipate other employees going on strike, which as I said I think is totally wrong as it’s a private matter between employer and employee. From the organisational perspective you can’t have employees openly challenging them and do nothing about it, as it makes any policy meaningless and gives free reign to all other employees to breach it too without fear of repercussions.

Gary Lineker was perfectly entitled to compare THE LANGUAGE of Suella Braverman with that of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei. The final outcome might be totally different, but the starting point was the same. Unify the country in a common enemy. (For enemy insert any minority group you choose) Blame all the country's ills and problems on that group, whilst at the same time destroying all your opposition and becoming extremely RICH in the process. The German nation was lied to by cleverly manipulated media. (Sound familiar?) The German phrase "Wer schweigt, stimmt zu" has never been more appropriate. (If you are silent, you agree). Too many people were silent ......and then it was too late.
Well done, Mr. Lineker for showing some backbone and integrity, a characteristic which is sadly lacking in both the BBC and the Tory government.

Absolutely spot on my friend.
The language being used is there to whip up a 'them and us' storm, knowing full well it's the only thing they have left since they've fucked everything else up.
And it seems to be working, since a lot of folk seem happy to be lied to by the actual real elite, tugging their forelock as they go.

Well gave motd & motd2 a watch - verdict = it was good to watch the games but imo it was missing the actual game commentary, what 100% wasn't missed was the studio punditry. Is it the new way forward for motd....not sure but I was never a regular viewer so will have to wait n see what will happen. If the viewing figures keep increasing when no pundits / arse lickers then the BBC have a decision to make 🤔

Every thing gets blown up out of hand. Every one feels sorry for genuine refugees families from troubled countries. But not the young men coming in the boats. If they stop it and I don’t think they will. It will be a massive vote winner. And the Labour Party know this.

Match of the day was brilliant watching it it was like watching life football. No experts. Thinking they know better than a normal football fan
😂😂😂
Hold on Oooooo ... don't you try to tell us that you know better than others, simply cos you've been waiting Latics for nigh on a century ?! 😁
