Left back

Don't get me wrong, Naismith can whip a ball in and is pretty decent on the ball at times, but he is very prone to getting absolute ripped to pieces all game most of the time when he does come up against a half decent right winger.
No argument from me there. I was merely commenting on Saturday,....... another game where he did OK.

Moonay , what did think of Kipre on Saturday?........ .

He (along with Dunkley) made some great blocks (one which could have been given as handball) and he generally had a good game...... but he should have done better with the goal. He gave Fletcher far too much room, and if (as KDZ says) Jones really doesn't like long shots, then I suppose those in front of him should be aware of this.

It’s strange how we can see different things. I thought Naismith was poor on Sat. He lost the ball countless times and doesn’t overlap at all when he should. My neutral friend commented on it throughout as well.

To be fair to Kipre they had plenty of runners and our midfield had vanished him and all of the back 4 were exposed they had to make the choice of go to the ball and risk leaving gap for a through ball or go with the runners and leave him with time and space a long shot. In those situations it's potentially damned if you do damned if you don't as a centre back.

From the highlights it seemed like the midfield rather than the defence caused the mess. Think Evans was probably more to blame than Kipre or anyone in the back 4 as looked the deepest midfielder and missed a tackle that left open season behind him.

But the one thing that this shows is how absolutely vital off the ball movement is - players don't even have to touch the ball but if they can get forward on the counter quick it pulls team all over the place and creates so much space. Earlier in the season when we were doing that it created so much space and time, it's no coincidence since we've hardly done it in months we've struggled as it makes it so easy for teams to play against us and makes it so hard for us to do anything.

I don't know where our counter attacking has gone but we used to do to teams what Sheff Wed caught us with - we have it in us, but we seem almost too scared to counter teams in case they counter our counter.

What about this young left back that is on trial and playing in the Development Squad as I type? Webber his name is. Was formerly with Ipswich.........

If Ipswich are letting this lad go and have signed Callum Elder to be their new left back who we seemed to think wasn't up to this level it doesn't suggest this lad is anywhere near playing first team football yet. He's only played a handful of games in non league judging from what is on line, so I suspect if we are looking at him it's not one for the first team but the youth team.

Is there no chance of Bainsey or Jagielka coming......both rumours earlier in the window amongst the terrace talk or was that just wishful thinking?

Well its looking like we wont. Not heard from anyone to say we would or not. Can only summise from the lack of activity and total silence from our puppet chairman that the people who pull his strings wont pay the wages or for players. That is unless we are due some surprises.

Unless Everton willing to pay 55-60k of their supposed 70k wages there's no chance. If Everton willing to do that type of subsidising then there will be a host of top end Championship clubs willing to take them on and we wouldn't get look in.

Any previously established Prem player will be on insane money now that we will have zero chance of being able to cover unfortunately.

Totally agree regarding both, their wages will be astronomical plus im weary of buying ageing fullbacks. We saw in 16 17 how Warnock despite being good for us in second half of 15 16 his legs had gone by 16 17. I also remember when likes of Neville and Riise hit 34 or so in PL and how their decline was so fast from that age in their performances.

I think if Jagielka was going to go anywhere too it would be back to Sheff Utd

As they are both doing very well and full of confidence why not draft in the left back from dev squad or u18 - it couldn't be any more of a risk than playing Naismith there.
Also last time we did this is didn't work out too badly did it ?

I sincerely hope we don't waste over half million on Blackett to play at left back, he's shite. Likewise with fox, decent centre half but poor left back according to reports, which is understandable given his age. It's an absolute disgrace that there's four days left in the window and we're still fannying around trying to find a specialist left back. We've needed one since the end of last season, the necessity for one hasn't just cropped up. I was hoping for better with a change in ownership but despite a new regime, its the same old incompetence.

I have no idea why they have not put Connolly in there , not Naismith fault he can`t defend and must be shiting himself when the ball comes across to his side ..
Connolly is comfortable at fullback and could sit there to defend , also did Gibson make a pass to a latics shirt on Saturday he was trash and needs away , did i read he was contracted till Jan or am i dreaming ?
We are loosing the games in there for me no control of the game and we have no match winners on the pitch just for that moment of class ..
We just don`t look a good side at all , Kipre and Dunkley must be fed up
Will we see Powell again calf strain now ..
