League One Transfers: January 2024

Port Vale

Out (1):

Midfielder: Oliver Arblaster, 19 (end of loan from Sheffield United)
He was excellent against us until he got sent off. Looked a decent playmaker midfielder thought he controlled the first half of that game. Wonder if he will go back out on loan?

They love him on here: https://www.onevalefan.co.uk/forum/topic/60959-arblaster-recalled-back-to-sheffield-united/#comments

He was stretched off a few weeks ago though so a few weeks out. Also sort of makes sense if he's had rave reviews, could be a player for Sheff U in the Championship next season.

This one is an enigma. A former England U21 international, made his Premier League debut for Liverpool at 18, bought by Reading in 2020 for £3m, and basically disappeared from sight a year later amid rumours of fitness and disciplinary problems. Has now been terminated by mutual consent - perhaps his £12,500-a week wage for doing nothing has something to do with that. I wonder which club will take the risk?
Kind of fits us in one way - damaged goods/finding something we wouldn’t be able to afford if he was in full working order. Must have some serious quality to get to England u21, and Liverpool debut, etc
only works if lcfc can getting inside his head, and convince him a massive drop in wages and a reset could get him going again. This is where a good coach of young(ish) players would become an asset, and a way to compete with the big spenders. big risk caveat - as with eardley, bridcutt, walsh, grant (to an extent), bishop, Walker etc etc etc

from the ceo post
Our method is to (on the whole) sign players pre-peak and work with them to develop them into their peak.

To add more detail, this may be end of pathway players either at end of contract and free of compensation (so 25 years old), or end of pathway (24 and under), but with agreements from their club to smaller fees, with a shared future interest in their development.

Are we applying the "no dickheads" rule though? Another Ravel Morrison type? Even the best man managers rarely turn those around. Signing a player with that record would be, as Sir Humphrey used to say, "brave".

Exeter City

In (1):

Midfielder: Luke Harris, 18 (on loan from Fulham to the end of the season)

Interesting, do you have a link to his ravel-esque behaviour?

Stevenage

Out (3):

Goalkeeper: Krisztián Hegyi, 21 (end of loan from West Ham United)
Midfielder: Harrison Neal, 22 (end of loan from Sheffield United)
Striker: Charlie McNeill, 20 (end of loan from Manchester United)

Vale fans believe Wilder has said that he’ll be part of the first team squad for the rest of the season.

Between Arblaster and Devine - they’re doing something right in convincing clubs for loans.

Peterborough United

Out (2):

Defender: Peter Kioso, 24 (end of loan from Rotherham United)
Defender: Zak Sturge, 19 (end of loan from Chelsea)

Kioso is a blow to Peterborough - he was also their captain.
Club captain in on loan? That’s a different one!

Fleetwood Town

In (1):

Striker: Ronan Coughlan, 27 (Waterford)

Waterford are Fleetwood's sister club, also formerly owned by arch conman Andy Pillock.

Lots of players being recalled from their loans, more than normal or just noticing more?
