Having only having starting watching latics as a child in 1990, I wasn't aware that Latics have played more games at this level than anyone else.

Is this our level, or are we right to expect more?

Of course we have a right to expect more. And we all want our teams to do well. But when one looks back throughout the past 30+ years (or during the Sky TV premier league years), clubs like ourselves, Swindon, Oldham, Bradford et al are generally L1 clubs at best - who had their stint at the big time.

Agreed Runcorn, there are some lower league clubs who've had their glory days in the top division(s).

Ownership, funding and ambition will obviously pay a big part in where we are.

Maybe unless we have another Dave Whelan type benefactor, we need to consider a Brentford style model of buying players in the right age bracket, mould etc., with resale value

Or

Is our Academy the way forward for creating players with potential and the creating of a profit upon sale?

I think if you read Shaun Maloney's interview with WT it looks like the Academy option is the way we will be going forward with possible small fee transfers to complete the squad.

Brentford way. Is the better path. That’s for sure. But we don’t have the scouts to do that successfully.

We'd need the data part of what Brentford do too, I would imagine. Although, didn't we have that football manager chap on the Board when Talal and his mates were around?
