Jobs at Latics

jeffs right

Vital Football Hero
Apart from the complete blanket on communication and leaving fans in the dark things are still ticking along in some ways at DW Towers and one thing I see is jobs and vacancies still being offered. Someone knows something about the owners future intentions or else these normal everyday things wouldn't be happening. Everything seems very weird.

I suspect the owners have told the rest of the staff everything is fine, we are fully committed, the money is there, etc - carry on as normal.

But they are probably just as skeptical about if that is true but have no option but to carry on as if it is true.

I've often thought about applying for what would be my "dream job" at the DW stadium......and then bottled it every time due to the unstable nature of working somewhere where the jobs depend on going up and down the divisions. I don't feel like I have missed out now.

I'm not so sure, I've spoken in passing with someone that works at the club in a non football related role if that makes sense (That's as in depth as I'm saying on here to stay fair to them not being identified). They said that a fair few are fearing administration / updating their CV's ready to start looking elsewhere.

That's the point i was making, they have to carry on their day to day jobs as if everything is fine, but they probably don't believe it.

If anyone has some time on their hands ... sounds like a great opportunity for the right kind of person.

That should be a paid position. The fact a profesional club owned by a billionaire paying thousands of pounds per week doesn't want to pay the going rate for a fair days work is disgusting in my eyes.

Anything that requires you to be available at a certain time on a certain day for x amount of hours is a job and should be reflected as such.

Tory policies at work there. Good old big society or whatever it was called when Cameron was closing surestart centres, library's etc and expecting community volunteers to do it for free.

Don't you think they're being paid in kind Faz ? A match ticket, car parking, discounts, other stuff ..... but surely, payment isn't the point here. The service sometimes offered by those being paid minimum wage (in lots of roles .....not just at Latics) is poor, cos they don't give a shite.

This role requires people to do stuff before the game, and then, they watch the game by way of payment.

For many people, it may be a fantastic arrangement.

Ahahaha, classic. The old "we'll give you all this and all that, but won't actually pay you for your hard work".

We don't need anyone to "welcome us" and tell us where the nearest pisser is FFS. Roles for roles sake.

Embarrassing Tory behaviour. I'll say once again, the high-end staff at Latics who I assume brainstorm shite like this needs a good root and branch clear out by the new Chairman/CEO. Sounds like Brannigan employed a load of duds.

Aaah ... someone else who doesn't understand the point.

Some roles are a job. Some roles are a vocation. Some roles are a joy, or a labour of love.

This is none of the above. It's an opportunity, and the people they get will likely be great. That said, if they don't get many volunteers and end up employing folk, they'll likely be not so great.

"Duds". 😂😂😂

Tory policies from a Socialist owner Fax lad.

I know what you mean Ant. Negative bunch some of these lot. Distant memory I recall Latics volunteers with blankets walking around the pitch perimeter collecting money.

No doubt then that you are happy to see hundreds of thousands pounds of money donated to charity paid to their chief execs whilst poor old Doris/ Dick who go out rain or shine to collect the cash do it quite happily without financial returns.

I have no qualms with volunteers, and have never met one that grumbles about the work. However like Moonay says, those
on minimum wage are seldom happy.

Do we really want grumpy underpaid adolescents as ambassadors for the club greeting opposition fans or happy smiling volunteers who have an affiliation with the club welcoming them.

Don't see the issue with it to be honest, as far as I can see it's asking someone to give up an hour or 2 to help follow latics fans and in exchange they get a match ticket, free parking and refreshments which I'm assuming means a pie and a drink.

The value of this would likely be more than minimum wage if I could be bothered to work it out. Personally think it's a pretty good deal and could help out some fans that may otherwise not be able to afford a season ticket.

I think that having this as a volunteer positions is fine.

I imagine it'll only be 2 or 3 hours pre match, so if someone was going to the game anyway and has the time to spare they might think it's a good deal for them to save money on a ticket. Win-win situation. The idea is clearly they want fans talking to fellow fans rather than just offering a wage and getting some random person there just for the few quid who don't care about the club.

If no fan is willing to do it for the free ticket, then that's fair enough and the club will have to offer a better inventive to get fans involved. But if the club can get fans happy to to give a couple of hours for free parking, half time food and a ticket then why not?

The website also says that there is further training and development opportunities, so if someone does take this up and shows the right characteristics they may be able to eventually get a paid role from it or get more involved in the club.

So i think it's a good idea if it works and could be mutually beneficial from club and fans interested. If it doesn't work then no harm done but worth a try.
