The buildings on Henry Street earmarked for demolition
Two properties in Blackpool are to be demolished after the council has approved a plan from Blackpool Football Club.

The houses on Henry Street back onto the Bloomfield Road stadium, and have been stated to be “empty and beyond repair” .

The football club asked for permission from Blackpool Council to demolish the houses last month, which are on land that it owns and are alleged to “attract anti-social behaviour including fly tipping.”

The homes have been described as ‘pre-war one story homes’ and have been derelict for some time.

Following conditions being met, such as a lack of nesting bats or endangered species living in the properties, the council on Friday (June 19) approved the plans to demolish them.

Work will have to start within five years according to the conditions and can only be carried out between the hours of 8.30am and 5.30pm.

According to planning documents, “the site will be fenced off by heras fencing and secured until a decision has been made on what to do with the land” following the demolition.

“An excavator will be used to flatten and clear the remaining floor debris,” the approved plans say.

“The method of working outlines measures that will be taken to ensure that works involving asbestos will be handled appropriately.

“Risk assessments have been carried out which identify asbestos, work near live services, dusty atmosphere, and vehicle movements as areas where impact on public amenity would be anticipated.”

Blackpool Football Club has not yet responded to a request for comment.

This was mentioned last year when they originally applied tor permission to demolish. They are the only properties that the club owns, although may have owned others before but subsequently sold those. Recent mention of potential development of the Revoe area is a longer term project (if it happens), although a potential revelopment of the properties along Henry St could be an earlier phase. Unfortunately, I can't see this happening anytime soon, with more urgent priorities in the post Covid economy
