If crutches piss you off....

Was really fed up with using crutches over the last week. So I tried this. I have been using it for a couple of days. It took a bit of getting used to but now I can actually get myself a glass of wine and go and sit down with it. It doesn't suit every situation but I can go for a walk now!!

That is outstanding!

I actualy have three sets of differing cruthes (how sad is that!) and as I am booke din for another and I hope last but major knee surgery on the 9th July, I'll be buying a pair of these - they are a no brainer.

Cheers 80...

Not sure why you're on yours (sking related by any chance?)...but hope you're off them soon.

The story is so banal my friends have told me to make something up or shut the fcuk up. Pretty much in those words. Are you going to be able to rest your knee on that platform?

If you have to use crutches, you need to cut down on the drinking, not increase it.

Sorry '80' I didn't get to hear why you are on crutches. How did that happen and are you recovering ok?

Thanks welsh. Tripped on a curb and snapped my 5th metatarsal, shattered is a better description.

Saw the specialist this morning, showed him the site and he said "no chance! You will have to be non-weight bearing for 2-3 weeks and then gradually put weight on it after"...

Deep joy :-(

I'm not sure this is a good idea at all 80. Crap though they are crutches have stayed the same design for a long time for a reason the don't exacerbate or cause other issues bar the occasional stress injury of the scapula.

Oooooh. 'Sounds painful. Get well soon (and try and drink less).

Same to 'EX' then, Get well soon, Mate! I almost feel out of place now not having crutches.... 'Almost' I said. It's getting like Tiny Tims workshop.

I quite liked crutches when I was on them. The American style ones looks awful though 80, they must kill under your arms?

Whilst that looks cool, wouldn't have been much use for me and my knee.

This works well for those days when you are on your feet a lot. It takes about 2-3 minutes to put it on. Getting it off is a snap. Once it is on though your hands are free and that in itself is worth it. I am up and down out of a chair most days so I still use crutches on those days.

What do your crutches look like? I thought they were all the same.

I couldn't have used that with my knee at all. It was stuck at a 45 degree angle for weeks, and then by the time it wasn't, I could put weight on it and it was operation time. Then I had to be off it completely for about a month afterwards. Would have been too painful on my knee cap and the joint I think to have put pressure on it like that requires.

Ours are like this -

Hmm. We use those for walking disabilities. The iwalk thing is more for foot and ankle injuries.

How would you fancy 3 myths of zero weight bearing? That's what I had and I was in a brace locked at zero dg for that time too.

I had the crutches sgfl had and they were fine. Another guy who had similar op had the under the armpit crutches. I was told these were used in preference to the others because the gentleman was pretty large. Not saying anything like

They also use those ones I posted above in Dubai, we found out. My mum managed to fall down the stairs when we were there last year!
