Likewise gray I come across them from time to time

I was mooching around in it one day and I found pictures of old Mr Bambridge who had a fruit and veg shop at the bottom of Ecclesall Road opposite the S&E Arcade, but on the stretch up to Wards. He used to bring us our fruit and veg in the back of his Morris Oxford van every week. So many unexpected memories.

I think every area had a Mr Banbridge back in the day FKB although ours was called Mr Wilson the grocer. We’d stand outside his corner shop at the end of Bernard Lane and listen the crowd on a Satdi afternoon as a little kid. We didn’t need a Final Score on the telly to know if we’d won.

One of the shop keepers in our village back in't 60's & 70's was non other than ALBERT COX,ex BLADE left back, who once told me Stanley(Sir) Mathews med him look a fool once at BDBL in the first few minutes of a game by shakin his shoulders at Albert,he went one way the ball went tother way and Albert was left lookin silly,Albert then hit him wi a hard "tackle" the next time Stanley ventured near him and that was the end of Stanley bein a menace that day. UTCB
