Huddersfield v Swans

Huddersfield away up next on Sat 15 Jan, in our first league game since Dec 11.
It’s going to be a tough ask to get any points there as they are one of the form sides at the moment and last weekend they beat Burnley away in the FA Cup.
We need to stop giving away soft goals and there was no sign we had rectified that problem in the cup match last week.
Last 6 matches:
Huddersfield 3W 3D 0L F9 A6 Pts12
Swansea City 1W 1D L4 F6 A13 Pts4
Up front we have limited options, with Cullen and Whittaker out on loan and there’s only the returning Kyle Joseph as back-up for Piroe and Obafemi.
With Bidwell, Dhanda, Fulton and possibly Walsh on the way out it’s certainly a busy time on the transfer front as Martin tries to get a team together that are able and willing to play his way.
New signings Cyrus Christie and Andy Fisher are available for selection.

Christie comes straight in, Hamer keeps his place, Fisher and Joseph subs

Swans:
Ben Hamer, Cyrus Christie, Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton, Ryan Manning, Flynn Downes, Matt Grimes (c), Joel Latibeaudiere, Korey Smith, Olivier Ntcham, Joel Piroe
Subs: Andy Fisher, Ryan Bennett, Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi, Kyle Joseph, Liam Walsh, Azeem Abdulai

Two excellent saves by ex-Huddersfield player Hamer.
Ball in the Swansea net after 6 mins, ruled off-side.

HT: 1-0
........but we had 66% possession!
Huddersfield all the shots, Swans all the possession which is the pattern in games with Martin’s football.

Better from Swansea start of second half.
50’ Christie brings a good save out of Nicholls, Cabango heads wide from the resulting corner.
54’ Ntcham shot from outside the box saved.

All Swans at the moment.

78’ Downes shot to the bottom left hand corner.
It’s been all Swansea second half with numerous chances, 10 shots on target!

Huddersfield have wrestled back the initiative, into injury time now, corner to Huddersfield which is cleared, phew!
Piroe 30 seconds left shoots narrowly wide!
FT: 1-1 well done Swansea, 18 shots on goal!

A pretty poor first half. We grew into later on in that half and then totally dominated the 2nd half, I think they had 1 chance in the entire 45?

We should have won it and would have had we not, yet again, conceded a goal to chase the game. If we could just stop that habit of gifting teams the first goal we'd give ourselves a much better chance of winning games.

But anyway, plenty of positives, a great enjoyable performance. The new signing Christie did well, Latibeaudiere too (someone I've not been fussed on in the past). Downes MOTM regardless of the goal. Obafemi looked sharp too when he came on.

Just watched the highlights, poor defending for Terriers goal, and Sinani was completely alone and unmarked in front of goal for the tap-in.
Second half, did Terriers sit back on their lead or were they unable to control the fight back from the Swans?
Hamer was inspired in goal, whether that was having a point to prove against his old club or the signing this week of new goalkeeper Fisher it’s hard to say.
Now if only we could sort out our defending and bring that second half attacking display into our games in hand, starting with Preston next Saturday.

Most, if not all open play goals we conceded are a result of some awful, desperate defending and we saw it again.

A trend is we're getting done down the flanks or through the channel. They cut through us like butter again with 2 passes, got through the press, a runner in behind and then we're scrambling all over the place to recover.
