Miles off time wise I know, but thought i'd share with you what the list is and see your opinions on who you'd release/keep, there may be a few youth lads missing from this:

Hadler
Nelson
Arnold
Garmston
Nugent
Ehmer
Zakuani
Morris
Byrne
Martin
Wagstaff
List
Cundle

Personally I would keep:

Hadler, Ehmer, Zakuani, Byrne, List and Garmston/Wagstaff if they can demonstrate their fitness these coming months. Possibly Cundle as well but we haven't seen enough to judge in my opinion.

Arnold is 4th choice, Nelson is hindering Hadler's progression if he stays and as much as we all love him it's probably time to go, Nugent is arguably 4th choice centre back, Morris constantly injured, such a shame as would arguably would be a dead cert for a new deal if his knees weren't shot and Martin probably will get one but I think we could probably look for better with the wages he is likely to be on.

IIRC we were looking recently at getting Arnold out. I'd agree about Nelson, so this leaves us with Holy and Hadler. Has he developed enough to become 2nd choice? I'd personally still keep Arnold as a 2nd choice if Hadler isn't deemed to have progressed enough by then. If and when Holy goes in the coming years then we can look at bringing in a definite starting goalkeeper.

How well will we be able to rely on Lacey by the start of next season? If he becomes reliable then I feel no need to find another first 11 CB, but otherwise I don't mind either way about keeping Nugent or finding a stronger replacement. He seems ok the limited times I've seen him.

The rest all seem to be pros good enough to fight for a starting 11 place, including injury-prone Garmston (keep) and Morris (sadly release).

That leave us with a few young projects and List. Are we going to find a starting space for him in a role where he'll excel in? Does this mean we need to change formation and possibly get a like-minded double on the other side? With a decent creative midfielder/striker you could possibly stick him and Parker as wide forwards like Walcott at Arsenal. I liked his cameo the last home game but I just don't see him making enough of an impact this second half of the season.

The only definite I?d want to keep are Ehmer, Zak and Byrne. I?d consider keeping Martin, List and either Hadler/Arnold, if they have a good end to the season (Hadler/Arnold might have to impress on loan or in the training ground) and don?t require huge wages, and possibly Wagstaff, Garmston and/or Morris on a strict pay as you play deal.

For me:-

Hadler - Keep
Nelson - Release
Arnold - Release
Garmston - Release
Nugent - Release
Ehmer - Release
Zakuani - Try and keep but I think he'll go

Byrne - Keep
Martin - Release
Wagstaff - Keep
List - Release
Cundle - Release

Hadler - Release
Nelson - Release
Arnold - Release
Garmston - Release
Nugent - Release
Ehmer - Keep
Zakuani - Keep
Morris - Release
Byrne - Release
Martin - Release
Wagstaff - Release
List - Release
Cundle - Release

I think Junga might be close to the mark. SL, provided he keeps us up will want to bring in his own players and many sacred cows might be sacrificed despite his having so far moulded the squad into a team that tries.

I wondered what you were on for a minute, I read that without my glasses and thought it said SCARED cows

Who the hell scared the cows? Leave the poor boys out of it ffs

Here's my take

Hadler Keep
Nelson Release
Arnold Release
Garmston Keep (young lad who may grow out f his injuries - 12 months deal)
Nugent - release (we have better)
Ehmer - keep
Zakuani - make every effort to keep. We are so much better when he plays
Morris - pay as you play deal perhaps otherwise sadly release (the few times he played he was a cut above most of our team)
Byrne - keep (our most improved player this year. Does all the unfashionable stuff well)
Martin - not fussed. If we can get better then release
Wagstaff - release. Too injury prone and not young like Garmston
List - release. Just can't see him holding down a regular first team place. Can't score
Cundle - release. Doesn't look good enough and also doesn't look like scoring

The young players you missed. Mbo, Stevenson, Oldaker, O'mara, Simpson and Chapman. I think they will all stay,

Keep Hadler ,Ehmer ,Zakuani,Byrne ,Nugent and the youngsters named by Oranjeboom .
Make cut price offer to Martin .The rest can go in some cases like Waggy ,Morris and Garmston it is a shame but unless they can prove their fitness then they have to go .
But there is still time for others to prove their worth or disprove it as the case maybe .

chris - broadly agree with you - I do hope Garmston can stay injury free for the rest of the season though. Be a shame if he goes.

I think Hadler and one or two of the youngsters will get a 2 year contract - Oldaker and maybe Chapman. The rest only 1 year.

I agree with you arthurly _ I think Garmston may have turned the corner. I dont think we can underestimate the severity of his knee and how it appears he was rushed back with poor rehab as was Aaron Morris. Aaron is 28 ? and Garmston 23 so has a few years on his side. However I think he has shown huge commitment and determination to get back by spending his own money going abroad and he has completely changed his running style to minimise his problems. He needs a run of games now. I think he can play at a higher level and I would give him a chance and offer him a new contract because if he plays to the end of the season and does well other clubs will take him for nothing and we will lose out.
I think some of these other players will surprise us and its now going to be a tough battle for the next 5 months and I think its too early to say who we keep and who we let go. This period is too critical.

I find it unlikely Garmston and Morris were rushed back against all advice in these days of specialist medical and sports science input.

Trev...by the tone/content of alot of his posts, i suspect kettners is something to do with the physio/sports scientist at the club so id take his opinion on this one.

I dont see any evidence to suggest in any way Garmston has turned the corner, just as Wagstaff hasn't.

Garmston has started only 3 games this season, going of at half time in 2 of them, and after 75 minutes in the 3rd game, and he's played a total of 45 minutes in the 3 appearances he's made from the bench. When hes played 10 games on the bounce without getting injured maybe then we can start talking about he's a possibility for a new deal.

27 starts in 30 months is shocking, and with our budget we can't be carrying continual sick notes in our squad, and however talented he maybe, IMO he doesn't warrant a new deal, along with Wagstaff.

Captain -if he had have been fit then 27 starts in 30 months is not great - and dont forget Dickerson was tried in that position and turned out not to be reliable - He was a left winger and struggled to defend. and now championship clubs are chasing Dickerson like Amari Bell. Garmston is better than both of them. So financially he is worth a punt to sell on The fact that Garmston has been injured for 15 months and has been pissed around by a piss poor medical team initially is another matter.
Thankfully a much better set up this year has helped. The point is he could make the club some money if we are shrewd. If we dont give him a deal he could walk into another club and do well for them and we get sod all.
Hes young Captain and has time on his side. This substitute thing Tell me how many come off the bench after 10 minutes into the game - its always the last 15/20 mins unless someone gets injured. Hes already shown IMO hes the best left back or wing back that we've got and just gives us so much more on that left side.
