For those thinking of recent robberies at Anfield this year and Stamford Bridge last year - this one is the absolute doozy of all time…

Brace yourselves - cos some on here are about to feel very old! Especially those like me who were there that night ….

I can never remember what my first game was but this was one of my earliest games

The atmosphere that game was one of the reasons I was so hooked

In the E Wing full of radgies was something special

The hate was palpable and I don't know how Mills got out unharmed

As it happens I was next door in “D” Paddock! With my brother and a good mate of mine. Had to stop my mate chucking a 50p piece he’d been sharpening on the concrete terrace especially for the ref!

“Phil man!! D’ya not think Brighton have tipped him enough already, like?!?!”

I was 17 - jeez where, when and how did that go?!

Remember it well. The same night the Mackems lost 2-1 at Man City and they played Brighton away in the next round.
Used to keep all the match reports :grinning:
 
You’re right like - it was mental in the paddocks that night as they came off. Mills had police escort. He seriously could have been lynched.

We consoled ourselves after- “Liverpool away - ah well - at least they’ll be out next round”

Beg to differ mate but Stoke beat Sheff U the same night to let them play Liverpool in the next round. I agree they nearly won it but didn't Man U win the replay?

Didn't Peter Ward score at Anfield in a 1-0 win? I can't remember what I had for tea yesterday but football and the Toon, our lass goes mad :grinning:

Crossed posts there mate - yeah got a little muddled

Yeah Man U won replay easily but Smith missed a sitter that would have won it for Brighton in the first game.

Brighton also got relegated.

I thought it was 1-2 for them but hey - you’re already one up on me so not gonna argue! Lol

I know Ward scored the winner v us.
 
Yes Finn mate, at the end of the day we were hard done by. I kept a lot of the reports from 'The Journal' in those days. Telford. Mills didn't get a mention or how Keegan got the shit kicked out of him.
