Yes towards the end of that season , we played some very decent stuff , that last 2 games we beat Arsenal and Liverpool and actually finished 9th.

Not the most popular of managers at the time but I think he could see where things were heading several years before the issues really sank in. Shame he couldn’t have stayed on for longer as his experience could have helped us to avoid the years of decline that followed

Not my faveorite manager.Even after he left Liverpool he was always going on about them, even when he managed us.

It's very sobering when someone who is younger than you dies - it's happening a lot to me these days!

I think he would have clicked with us if he had carried on. I was always sad he had to quit.

Such a shame, heard nothing but good things about him from staff at Villa. He was so involved and so interested in our club, even backed the VMF restaurant by going.

Was the exact sort of pedigree this club should always be attracting, sadly, due to health, he didn't get the run he needed to do things for us.

Can't remember being particularly enthusiastic about him if I'm honest. Probably the stand out results were when he was off sick when we beat Arsenal and Liverpool. But would be churlish to say his influence wasn't there at that point.

However, clearly a class act given his record elsewhere.
