Gayle - what was his tally in the end?

Gayle scored a goal every 93 minutes with his closest rival over 40 minutes away in Leed's Chris Wood.

Wood played for 3625 minutes over the whole season to score his 27 league goals and win the golden welly or whatever it is they get.

Gayle played for 2145 minutes overall but if had continued his ratio and played the same minutes as Wood then he will have got 39 goals.

As much as i didn't think he was that good of a striker he certainly scored the goals. id loved to have known what he'd be on if he wasn't cattled for all that time.

Sadly, players of his ability often suffer hamstring injuries, from which they never fully recover.

He'll be a bit part player for the rest of his career.

Has a bit more heart and soul than that **** Owen, but we have to face facts - he's a 20 game-a-season player, from now on.

Good point. Hope you're wrong.
Gayle certainly did his bit for the cause

29 in 54 according to wikipedia.

Still a very good rate, especially as it was all top flight; but I maintain Gayle is the more natural finisher..........best since Shearer, albeit in the 2nd tier.

He was in the big boys league though , 16 goals one yr and 13 in about 20 games the next .

The key thing with Gayle isn't his finishing it's his movement and willingness to keep making runs even when's he not getting the ball. Movement wise he works the entire back four (though seems to prefer to drift to the left side of the defence in more recent appearances). Most strikers playing uptop on their own will quite often stop making runs in behind when they're not getting the ball (look at Origi's last game for Liverpool vs Southampton as an example of this) Gayle just keeps going and going and going . Can't remember the exact game but made a point on here about how the lad made eight really well timed runs before getting a pass and a goal on his 9th. Got to be fit as a flea and mentally tough to do that.

It's so refreshing to have someone willing to work and can put the ball in the net, after so many years of Shola + another.

Mind you, even Shola got into double figures in the Championship.
