Gavin Mahon

Although I am quite open in my thoughts that I would love us to be using a few more of our own talent (talent that was deemed good enough in league one but not so in league two in many instances) I do appreciate that you do need to have some experienced head around them.

These players will sometimes keep those out that I would hope would feature, but sometimes you just have to accept that you cannot always have it that way can you!

Although I would hope that such players will actually aid the development of those coming through by nurturing them along the way, offering these youngsters encouragement and advice as well as passing on their experience to them...

Such players are <b><font color='#0E4FB0'>Bondz N'Gala</font></b> and <b><font color='#0E4FB0'>Gavin Mahon</font></b>.

The contract of N'Gala was going to expire at the end of the year, potential interest from higher league clubs was reported – maybe just agent talk? – so we might have lost him in the new year when the transfer window reopened.

If that interest in him is there perhaps we still could, but if we did it would be with us receiving a transfer fee as ahead of our weekend win it was confirmed that he had agreed a new deal taking him through to the end of the season.

I am happy with that as he has shown that he is adding something to our defence, as well as being an attacking threat from dead balls – not something we utilised enough on Saturday, in the 1st half especially as we constantly went with the short corner routine that often resulted in nothing...

Also extending his contract, but by another month, was Mahon.

Little has been seen of him but I must say that from the fleeting glimpses I have seen of him I think he you can see the ability that he has.

He offers us a good option to break up play in midfield, but with the technically ability (and calm head on vastly experienced shoulders) to do something with it though to ensure that the ball does not just keep coming back time and time again.

Mahon could well become a good option for us as the season goes on, at the moment it will just be for another month but we do have plenty of games to play mind, including FA cup and Paint Pot Trophy ties in the next couple of weeks, as well as a packed month of league games so I think we could well see a lot more of him in the coming month though.

He is certainly a player that has a wealth of experience, at higher levels; that could be of benefit to plenty at Pompey I feel.

Yep, I am happy with these moves and dare say that most others are too?

PLAY UP POMPEY!

<b>As posted on the front page </B>

I think both contract extensions are good and fit for purpose .. Bondz gives us cover for Devera and Bradley and also allows for Adam Webster to continue his Center Half development in prep for next season.. As for Mahon I'm sure he was just cover for Ferry and is staying around just so we can rest some player ahead of JPT and FA Cup games we will want to win but still rest a few players..

Not really sure it matters if Mahon is cup-tied or not (even if he isnt going to stay with us long-term) so with that in mind I reckon we could see him starting at the weekend?

Always difficult not being at a game but seemed to start the game pretty well, offering us what we seemed to be needing - some muscle with a bit of ability too but perhaps not?

Has his sending off meant we have seen the last of him...

If a straight Red is three games then that is Newport, Wimbledon & S****horpe he'll miss ... so he'll only have Southend or Hartlepool (if contract runs to end of Nov) in which to break into the side .. Think you could be right rug..

I could see the benefits of having him around, would appear that he and Ertl together didnt work and didnt set the example you would have wanted him to with the kids?

If he gets another month after this one I would suggest that means we WILL keep him until the end of the season tho...
