FAO NottyImp and all planning..

Is there atill time to have the world cup removed from Qatar?
Others could step in if asked...England, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Holland etc.

Just seems bizarre that something procured openly through bribery & corruption is allowed to happen.

And on World Cups...who would like more teams at the finals?
Currently 32. It could easily go to 40 (8 groups of 5 in opening stage).
Football continues to develop and advance throughout the world so more & more nations capable of sending decent teams to the tournament. So let's get more of them there.
Each group of five could have two from Europe, one from Africa, one from Asia, one from South America, one from North/Central America, or something on those lines.

It will be 48 from the 2026 competition.
Bloated doesn't come close to describing that.

If that was ever a possibility it would have happened by now. Unfortunately bribery, corruption seems to be an accepted way to acquire such major world competitions and that's before you consider the other aspects of life in that region which I am sure will have an affect this time next year

The winter world cup in Qatar keeps looking like one of the worst decisions in human history.

(might have over-played that but the point still stands)

Games every four days for a month, not even at great times for European/American TV.
A Caraboa Cup round with no World Cup players won't be great for the competition (likely to be treated as a warm up by PL teams).
Then eight days after the World Cup final, the Premier League starts again on Boxing Day. Should be interesting.

Well chance for us to have our best ever run in League Cup then!

48. Didn't know about that.
So guess 8 groups of 6.
And maybe 32 into knockout rounds?

16 groups of three teams apparently in 2026!

With the top two going through to the last 32 - who makes these things up?

Maybe less group games/more knockouts is better for the fans though? And the players play the same number of games in total, although will only be guaranteed two matches.
