Experimental 361

A few bits for those like me that like this stuff:
An interesting Burton Albion Twitter account that analyses our game: https://twitter.com/RobBAFCAnalysis. The average positions are interesting, showing how much we focused on attacking their lack of pace on the left of defence. Also picks up on how MApp has drilled the lads to avoid unprofitable shots ( ), opting to work better shooting opportunites. Note that this xG is higher (and more accurate) than the Experimental 361 one. I believe this is due to the E361 using data scraping software which is inherently less accurate than a proper data source that I believe this Brewers page uses (such as Wyscout). I'm not slating E361 there, the methods he uses means he can generate interesting content for every EFL team quickly.

We've also played enough League One games for Whoscored to start being interesting to look at. You can rank players on all sorts of metrics on here (https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...PlayerStatistics/England-League-One-2020-2021) as well as the player ratings they're famous for (Hor-hay is ranked as the 4th best in the division, Montsma 12th, Brennan 32nd - Palmer is 2nd best 'keeper after Ben Amos). You can see our squad's data here: https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/203/Show/England-Lincoln-City.

Interesting thread Luke. I think when you overlay that data with the difficulty of opponents faced it's all the more impressive. As we approach the half way point you'd expect 'opponent difficulty' to even out but that's not quite the case given home / away fixtures, postponements, etc. Hull for example haven't faced any other top 7 side away as yet - albeit not the same without crowds.

When you look forward, not only have we faced the toughest fixtures of the top sides (together with Ipswich), we also have by some distance the toughest next 5 using the same methodology. I'm not actually sure when it gets any easier though!

Thanks for sharing, very interesting.

The stats back up what has been mentioned about Doncaster and their ‘luck’. Needed on average only 7 attempts per goal which is very clinical and perhaps won’t be a surprise if goals dry up at some point.
