Exeter City (h): What 3 Things Did We Learn?

1. Our opponents have worked us out, they know how we play and know how to combat it, we have to change our tactics and freshen things up.
2. John Akinde needs a proper partner to play up front with him in the whole. Too many times this season we've had attack minded midfielders trying to play higher up the pitch, last night we threw on the kitchen sink in the shape of Matt Rhead. Yes Exeter looked tired but his impact was almost immediate, on a better day we would of overturned the lead and won it.
3. We have got to get the ball under control and forward a lot quicker, but to do this we've also got to stop putting 11 men in the 18 yard box at a set play, we have no 'out' ball which means the ball comes straight back at us when we clear it.

1) Other teams have managers who are capable of tactical guile. Exeter set up to spoil our play with a very high line, compression of the midfield and a full-court press. It worked a treat and pretty much cut us out of the game for 70 minutes.

2) The Cowleys can adapt. Clearly seeing us struggling, Plan B was wheeled out - an oldie but goodie with Matt Rhead doing what Matt Rhead does. We dominated the last 20 and got the equaliser.

3) we need to consider 2 up top at home. We have had too many draws overall and, recently, far too many at home. Drawing away is fine... if you win at home. We have now dipped below the target of 2 points per game. To get back on track we need to start winning at home and will only do that by being more attacking. Play 2 up top, Danny, you know it makes sense.
