England v Kiwis

Bad light stops play.England 97-0 and need another 33 for victory. UTB
Screwed it up last night with the light reading. It was ridiculous as it was decent light and the floodlights were on so, because of the level set yesterday, tonight, with a very good crowd, they walk off leaving everyone feeling short changed.
Cricket really does not help itself in these situations.County cricket starts at 10.30 in September so why doesn't Test cricket?

A stupid decision IMO last night compounded by another stupid decision today. A full house and most likely well under an hour left for them all to witness a series result. As long as it didn't suddenly turn pitch black it'd have been fine with the help of floodlights. Now we'll have an half empty stadium with little atmosphere to witness what should be a formality. I think both captains would have been happy to play on based on the fact there seems little chance of the game tomorrow being rain affected. Both teams could be out on the piss tonight and the paying fans and viewing audience could reflect on a remarkable couple of days.

Watched the highlights was more like watching a one day game than a test match fair play to both sides for making a game of it,shame it couldn’t be finished on the Sunday as has been said better in front of a full crowd rather than a few dozen

Hi all you Yorkie friends see Brooks has made a good start in his test career helped Us beat Pakistan with a not out score. I hope they don't burn him out with too much of this slapstick cricket.

He really looked the part today
He played one shot( amongst many) that was so reminiscent of Joe as to be a direct copy, imitation and a display of absolute class.
It was the one where he played it late, standing on his toes, off the angled face of the bat that perfectly dissected the gap keeper and short third man.
A proper shot as was his straight drive, off the full face, that sailed back over the bowler's head.

Joe's said for years that he's one to watch - and he's right .

It's not helping Yorks though as they battle at the Oval this week and still have a CC game to play next week. They were off for bad light in London at 4o'clock yesterday- in decent sunlight!

Talking about cricket and the ECB's continued attempt to kill off the County Championship they are undertaking a High Performance Review - basically an exercise to help justify their decision by producing some stats that support their case whilst ignoring those that don't.
Each county has organised a Members petition calling an EGM to challenge the ECB's plans.
An interesting stat from the ECB's accounts has been highlighted and I've copied it from a poster on the White Rose forum below .
Just look at the wages paid at the ECB compared to the number of pro cricketers in the game.
The ECB is just not fit for purpose.

'The high-performance review comes as the ECB also start a financial review. This is likely to focus on the large increase in central costs – the ECB now employ over 450 staff with an average wage in excess of £100,000 a year – and result in a significant number of redundancies.

The ECB are budgeting for a shortfall of around £50million in their plans as a result of inflationary pressures.'

Just to repeat ... 450 staff with an AVERAGE wage of £100,000. And they have the gall to complain about a £50million shortfall.

During which several regular contributors to this forum seem to think it is the ECB keeping the counties afloat with regular 'bailouts'. Think it's the other way round.

Add to that, there are only around 400 professional cricketers in England. So for every professional cricketer, we have a fat cat administrator on a nice chunky £100k.

So, the financial problems in our sport are nothing to do with the counties, nor with them playing what some like to think are outmoded forms of the game. No, it's entirely down to a bloated and ineffective administration.

Come on counties .... chuck the lot of them out and reclaim our sport.
