Daniel Levy: Spending in Premier League 'totally unsustainable'

I think that the club will now be taken over. By putting Jose incharge the club is more desirable. I believe Levy feels now is the right time to sell the club. Love him or hate him (I hate him) Jose has done more in management than any other manager we could have got . Put that together with the best ground and training facilities spurs are very desirable and I think Lewis and levy want to cash in. If not then Levy made the choice to not spend more in the summer he is as much to blame as anyone for where we are . He also picked Jose do for me he should be up for the chop if this goes tits up

As I've said here before, never become close friends with someone you work for as the possibility that you have to walk them to the door is always a possibility.

I have worked with colleagues who have had varying methods. Some are just plain nasty and use their authority to bully. Some are too friendly. I trained under a ruthless and nasty one but learnt the dark side from him. He took it too far sometimes. You could tell when he was in a bad mood. Me and 2 work pals were just about to start a shift when he burst into the toilets where we were putting our ties on in the mirror, one guy was in the cubicle having a dump. This manager banged on the door and said....hurry up, I pay you to work, not shit !!
I was a disciplinary specialist later on as had attended a course and had the balls. I did most of the sackings and warnings etc, even had to travel to other branches to do it. I got hardened to it after a while. At my branch the staff knew I would do what was right and necessary but was approachable and would help anyone.

That's why I asked the question recently......what are the signs when a club is going to be sold.

Then Nick, you got it more right than you ever got it wrong.

It just seems to clinical for me. Jose has been backwards and forwards to lille this season. So this was not a quick thing. I think poch knew and that is why he has been funny this season. I think they knew and that is why there performances dropped. When this happens and when there is a clean out like there has been and the chairman goes against type. Signing Jose is completely against type . He does not go for big name managers and he doesn't pay them that much money. I think it could already be in the pipeline and Jose was the potential buyers choice

to pretend you saw it coming?

What I'm finding strange is the media and fan "Poch under pressure" narrative has now turned into some mad conspiracy theory that Jose was appointed too quickly.

Unless Levy was asleep on the job (like he was a couple transfer windows back) he'd have been chatting to possible appointments from weeks back. I remember walking out after the Bayern game and everyone asking whether Poch would be sacked by the morning. There were echos of the end of AVBs reign where we were getting hammered and leaking goals. It's felt like the writing was on the wall for some time.

I believe Levy wanted Poch to turn it around but I don't believe he was dumb enough to have not sounded out possibilities weeks ago if he didn't.

If Poch had gone the day after the Sheff Utd match and 10 days later Jose appeared it would have at least created the optics that Levy wasn't working in the background.

However, SSN were saying that super agent Pini Zahavi brokered this deal and had been working with Levy for weeks. I have no problem with that just like when the club got caught headhunting Ramos all those years ago. That's just life in business when you're making leadership changes.

Levy/the board had been in conversation for at least 3 weeks; the deal was quickly agreed and the board moved quickly to secure his first choice assistants.

I noticed something today on a couple of occasions that I didn't like. It seeias though Harry second guessed himself. Especially when Diop got back and tackled him . Normally Harry pulls the trigger quickly and effectively . Today on a couple of occasions he hesitated

Levy made the right call in appointing Mourinho. We have a squad of players who are desperate to win & now we have a man in charge who won't accept anything but a win. This squad is primed for success, they just need to be led in the right direction.

We allowed one journalist from each outlet to the initial presser. We turned down another 100 request to attend. Imagine what the European games will be like. Yesterdays post match was similar for the spams press guys by all accounts. The guy is Box office.

So. If we don't make CL and Leicester do their revenues will pull dramatically closer to ours.

Levy needs to make any necessary deals happen.

Pochettino did not leave us in a good position.

I doubt they will be close to ours. We'll be north of £400m with or without CL football. They will be north of £200m with CL. How it impacts them is not having to sell a 1st teamer every season. The last 4 seasons has seen Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez and Maguire leave. They won't need to do that this summer and can nudge their salaries up. I'd rather they had the money than a traditional top 4 side though.

I still think we'll see signings. I'm guessing Jose figures out the contract rebels first and I think he'll keep GLC and trigger the £40m payment. Perhaps he won't. After that, we'll find out what players can improve us according to Jose and which ones miss the cut.

I also think Jose's brand will help get deals over the line.

I agree with the Jose comment but without CL the following year we will likely be in the mid 3s.

They will be in the mid 2s.

It will definitely be interesting to see the 18/19 financial statement. I thought we were at £380m in 17/18 so no clue where we are in 19/20. We might be nearer to that £400m run-rate without CL than you think. Getting top 4 this season would be amazing though.
