What 3 things did we learn from today's 2-1 win away at Crewe?

We learnt we appear to have a very good scouting network.

We learnt Monstma looks to be an excellent find by the scouting network.

We learnt Notty is already happy as we are on a cup run with a team of Beasts and Monstmas who can control the ball and pick a pass.

Anyone? I need to be publishing something either tonight or early tomorrow because of the quick turnaround.

1 We are still a team in transition. It was an excellent win. It was a good team performance. Everyone did their job very well for the 90 minutes. Not everything came off though. Some decent pieces of play were undone by some players not being quite on the same wavelength as others. Little give and go's weren't quite read. The fact that we won and played well whilst it often didn't quite click is a promising sign for the future.

2. Adaptability will be important. We had a very young team especially in defence. That defence has a central midfielder playing at right back and a central defender playing at left back. Neither let the team down and both contributed to the improved second half performance. In players such as Bradley and Roughan we have adaptable young players who will be essential if injuries and suspensions start to bite as the season progresses.

3. Home advantage means nothing in an empty stadium. If you are losing at home 2-1 it used to be the case that thanks to home supporters raising the roof, the home teams performance becomes that little more intense and often an equaliser will come. Yesterday that extra bit of intensity seemed to be lacking from Crewe's game after our second goal. There might be other reasons for their lack of that extra 10%, Crewe have played quite a number of pre-season games so perhaps that little bit of tiredness played its part. It just seemed to me that home teams previous advantage just might be considerably less when you don't have any supporters. The real tester for that for us will be next Saturday when we host Oxford

Some really good points there. I've highlighted some bits I agree with particularly.

Good analysis apart from Crewe fans potentially raising the roof. Its never happened and it never will!

I think he must have meant some Crewe fans working on a shed and putting a new roof on it. The Crewe fans along with FGR must be some of the quietest fans in the league when it comes to celebrating a goal it's more a yup than Whoahhhh.
