Had a there and back trip on the M11 yesterday, parts resembled a car park, allow plenty of time !

I struggle through this for every home game. You might be better off avoiding the a14/m11 altogether, although it might not be so bad on a Saturday morning.

Another 20 or so months of this to endure before the new road opens.

But then they will shut another section. There are no times in this country when major roads are actually fully open on all sections. Like the Forth Bridge, by the time all works have been completed, they have to start back at the other end again.

The infrastructure in this country is, basically, shite.

It’s true - Britain has a considerably shorter 'motorway' network than some of our European equivalents. The UK has around 2,200 miles of motorway compared to 8,000 miles in Germany, 8,500 miles in Spain and 7,000 miles in France.

Our major roads tend to follow old routes, and building fresh ones are fraught with legal battles over land ownership. Agreements for new motorways can take decades and cost billions of £s.

The problem is - us Brits want decent roads, but we don’t want to carve up our countryside for them. Similar problems are being faced with High Speed Rail proposals.

A1 to M25 would be my route tomorrow- A14/M11 is a very slow at the moment
I went that way yesterday (there and back in a day) as had to visit someone in Leigh on Sea - no problems. Yes a little slow through the roadworks on A14, but was always moving and rest of journey and roads very good.

As someone else says, A1 is actually shut and so best going A14 way anyway as the diversion actually takes you onto the A14 eastbound for a couple of miles so may as well just keep going.

And there you have it. The major north-south route on one half of the country is completely shut.

Of course, if we had a decent, value-for-money public transport system, it wouldn't be quite so bad. But we don't. It's expensive and rubbish as well. Thank Christ we privatised it, eh?!

They’ve been closing it nights and weekends for a few months now. It’s a nightmare for me to get to midweek home games - but of course the train isn’t an option unless I take two days off work and book 9 months in advance!

Have you actually seen it notty? isn't it the biggest road construction in Europe at the moment with 32 odd bridges to build,it's a monumental task
So there bound to be some disruption
Get over it

I would agree we want decent roads but the political will of sucessive Governments has been lacking, with too much pandering to the anti-car lobby. You mention the small size of the motorway network compared to other countries-the decline in the number of miles of new motorway built can be summarised as follows :

1960's 637
1970's 801
1980's 317
1990's 247
2000's 53
2010's virtually 0

No.
The upgrading of the A465 (Heads of the Valley's) Abergavenny - Hirwaun is the biggest road engineering project in Europe. It commenced in 2005 and its latest completion date is 2023/4. When complete it will be the highest dual carriage way in the UK.

Another option would be the A 1198/ A 10 with a stop off at the legendary Silver Ball Café!
