Beats me why we can't score from a cross, whether a corner or otherwise.

This Senegal striker looks like he can get on the end of a cross mind.

Ironic that the Mirror show a photo, with Virgin Money on, do they think Virgin loan money to people interest free...

Carl's comment above is still strange a couple of days after he made it but regardless....

Local media reckons that the toon are confident that the Cisse thing can be resolved with him wearing the Wonga branded gear, siting the fact that he wore Virgin stuff.

Apparently lawyers etc will be sitting down looking at the small print in the contract to see if this can be resolved. Maybe something to watch in regards to a transfer, maybe not.

Also we should get finalised friendly news this week plus the likes of Parsnip should be back at their desks this week, so some new news should be forthcoming in regards to the quote department.

from martin samuel in the mail...
There is one puzzling element about Papiss Cisse’s objection to Newcastle United’s new shirt sponsor. Aren’t Virgin Money a financial services company, too? It is reported that Cisse will refuse to wear the next Newcastle shirt because it is sponsored by payday loan company Wonga.
There are certainly many reasons to reject a loan with an APR of 4,124 per cent (rising to 11,913 per cent if a client wants a 30-day extension), but Cisse does not appear to be resisting the practices of Wonga per se. His stance is religious. Sharia law says that Muslims must not benefit from either lending money, or receiving money as a loan from another person. It does not discuss the rate.
So Virgin’s flexible mortgages would be just as much an affront to Cisse’s Islamic beliefs as anything conjured up by Wonga. Yet Cisse was perfectly happy in his shirt emblazoned with the Virgin Money logo last season. Might there be more to his latest stance than meets the eye?

I suppose some could argue that virgin money are a bank and so they don't just lend money. Whereas wonga are simply a loans company who's morality is highly questionable.

The Islamic code on banking doesn't prohibit lending. it is quite a complicated issue, with loads of caveats in order that muslims are able to function in a modern society with banking at the centre of it. Suffice to say that fat Bluto lookalike Martin Samuels is talking out of his arse once again.

Hats off to Cisse for showing a bit of mettle, I hope he doesn't cave in on this.

This coming from Cisse who has stolen a living for the past 12 months and is taking home 50k a week. Fuck off you shite hawk.

Stolen a living?

He's making a stand, good for him. Just like you and me making a stand against Ashley. It's about principles, and he is showing some. Hats off to the bloke. His faith prohibits the practice of usury, and he is standing up for it. The laws on Sharia banking are quite complex, and worth looking into.

They both lend money and charge interest so effectively Cisse should have refused to wear the VirginMoney logo too , Its a tricky situation this, No one can criticise Cisse for adhering to his beliefs, But he is contracted and should do what he is told

Given he's already worn a Virgin Money shirt he shouldn't have an issue with Wonga. Both lend money and charge interest, the level of interest is irrelevant.

If anything VM is worse because they also pay interest on credit balances.

What might be nice is if some of our supporters showed as much backbone as Cisse.

It's not as straightforward as all that, you need to look at Sharia banking law, it's quite complicated.

I hope he keeps on refusing, and I hope a few more join him.

The terms of the contract have effectively changed. OL makes good points about the Islam stance.

Put in a slightly different way, I have friends who have been convicted for different crimes. None of those are rapists or child abusers. If anyone came from the latter, I would not choose to associate with them. I am comfortable with Virgin money, indeed my mortgage is with them. I would never do business with the likes of Wonga.

If the club's owner chooses to have a lack of moral values, I do not have to support him in that, neither does Cisse, Tiote, Ben Arfa or anyone else.

Cisse would have had more support on this issue from fans if this had been the end of last season, However considering he has had such a shit awful season many are not arsed if he is sold, Just a shame Sharia law does not forbid being offside all the ruddy time

Working in banking in the Middle East I know a little about Sharia products and it forbids interest of any kind. My point is strictly speaking if he has an issue with Wonga then he should have refused to wear VM and indeed the Barclays logo on his sleeve. I appreciate he's making a stand I just feels its a bit limp given he's had no issue previously.

The support, or lack of it, should not be dependent on his success on the field.

If Cisse is genuine in his determination to not wear the shirt then lets support him.

If however it turns out to be a cheap way of getting a move then that will be very disappointing.

I tend to believe him, as he does seem to be genuine in his faith.

We'll see in good time I suppose.

It would be nice if he spoke to clarify things.....

Is it purely down to his religious beliefs?

If it is, what is the difference between Wonga and Virgin Money according to his beliefs?

If it's morals fair play to him

If it's him itching for a move he should be looking for a club outside of the Barclays Premier League
