BBC Sport report on Youth ban and fine

Two things......

Firstly this is a massive disappointment and will not please the owners as it is anther tarnish on the club's reputation. However, I suspect it says a lot about the pressure the scouts are under to recruit youngsters. I hope to find out more about this when I read my new book "No hunger in Paradise" by Michael Colvin which focuses on the subject of youth scouting for professional clubs.

Secondly......I do not recall the Liverpool ban being reported once back in April. Not once.

I listen to Radio 5Live a lot and this morning the City article was reported on all the sports bulletins from last evening and they were still at it this morning. I do NOT recall hearing about the Liverpool ban at all back in April when it was imposed. And I thought they were a massive club with a huge fan base and a lorra, lorra history. Surely it would have been worthy of reporting.

The irony is they reported City for the recruitment of a young goalkeeper, 16 year old Louie Moulden, son of former City striker Paul Moulden. I noticed that this little element of the BBC story was absent. Hoisted by their own petard?

Am I missing something here? You say it wasn't reported, then post a link to it being reported :007:

I meant that whilst our transgression was repeatedly announced on the R5Live sports bulletins last evening and this morning, I do not recall that the Liverpool ban was reported on the radio at all. I listen to this BBC station every evening and morning and have no recollection of their fine and be being mentioned once back at the beginning of last month. Flew completely below the radar.

It seems all reports are equal but some are more likely to be highlighted than others.......

How dare you knock Liverpool when they and Stretford have had personal tragedies, a mere one report should suffice, but City are the baddies and should be treated as such, how dare they ruin football for all of us who only wanted one or two Clubs able to win the title year in year out

Tapping up young players and their families has been around for ever. The Dark Lord was a master at it. When the young lad does not make it they get shown the door quick smart which I find really sad to feel failure at such a young age, but that's life in the real world.

Looks like City are behaving better than the club with all their glorious 'istry

I don't understand why we keep signing more and more youngsters. I mean we can't improve the ones we've got up to first team standard so why do we keep on thinking the next lot will be better? Maybe concentrate on Diaz, Fodden, Tosin, Maffeo, Gunn etc and not keep thinking the grass will be greener when there is still available grazing on our side of the hill - or at the Academy.

I remember Paul Moulden, didn't he break some youth scoring record but still couldn't cut it at the highest level - not that we were at the highest level then but it was still pre Div III days.

I don't think you realise Kenny, that the youth section is an industry and it is not about making them all first teamers, that would take something special, but we make money from loans and eventually sales to League Clubs.

There are many youth academy players out there making a living directly as a result of coming through the academy

Thta is indeed one of the key reasons behind the development of the CFA.

The Academy has a number of purposes - potentially unearthing a 'gem', the next Messi - small chance but if you don't look you will never have a chance of finding him ('got buy a ticket to win the lottery'); creating a production line of players who, if they cannot make City's first team, can go on loan and/or ultimately join other clubs thus creating an ongoing revenue stream for the club augmented possibly by sell on clauses etc; and finally rising the profile of the club on the world stage.

I too would dearly love for the Academy to deliver a star footballer for our first team but in the meantime I am very proud of the CFA and, on the whole, City's youth development. This latest incident is disappointing but likely, I suspect, to be more down the competitive pressure that the coaches are under to attract the best young talent. The club must learn from it, take the medicine no move on

We have some potential Brahim Diaz(F), Jadon Sancho(F), Enes Unal(MF) (already a sensation in Holland, I know but it is a step up) Angus Gunn(GK)

I suspect you're taking the piss again Mr 'tache :006: , but just in case your not...
in 5 years time, who replaces Diaz, Foden etc if we don't scout/recruit now?

I get the frustration about the apparent lack of opportunities for kids in our first team. It's not like we haven't had that debate on here before :003:
