Barrow v Gillingham - our heaviest ever league defeat?

PhilK66

Vital 1st Team Regular
If I remember we lost 7-0 after a nightmare journey for the team when Dr Grossmark had to charter a plane to get the team there because of travel difficulties?

Anyway, in my years of supporting since 1958 I think this was our heaviest ever defeat in the league?

Didn't Shrewsbury put 7 past us to show their complete dominance over us?

(until we beat them 1-0 in the play off final :4: )

I'm sure Wayne will back me up on this, in 1933 we lost 7-1 away to Coventry, and 7-3 at home!

I was at both matches, just a few months apart! Football's a funny old game...

Me too, yet, as I recall, we started the 0-7 game very brightly.

Wayne, I wonder whether Phil was, perhaps, referencing only the away defeats.

Gimmer. Was that in non league?

No, it (1950/51) was our first season back in the Football League - Division 3 South in those days. Not sure how Forest were classed as "south" but it also included Port Vale.

The same way Chatham were classed as north in the Ryman League, Too many clubs from one area.

Didn't York put 7 past their old boy, Hillyard?

Yup, 7-1 in 84/5. We let in 7 at Accrington a few years ago in a crazy 7-4 defeat under Hess.

Wayne: when did we lose heavily to the Spirerites? I remember seeing a big win. But when was the 8-0 defeat v Luton?
