Aston Villa announce departure of CEO Christian Purslow

I think he has certainly left the club in a much better state and I don't think even his harshest critics can argue against that.

Obviously got one or two things wrong, most notably the Gerrard appointment and arguably the signings of certain players probably past their best for commercial reasons (Ings, Coutinho, Digne) but overall he's overseen huge progress from the club and left at a time when the club is where it should be historically (finally back in Europe and fighting with the top teams in the top division). We were a mess when he came in let's make no bones about that.

Happy if the club want to take another direction without him, whether it will harm us or not only time will tell but Nassef stepped in to appoint Emery and that worked out very well indeed so we have to trust the owners on this one. Heck seems to have a very good track record in the US.

It will need to be the right decision because Villa's turnover is still too low to compete with the top teams for the best players season in season out so commercialisation needs to be a priority (I am aware the stadium expansion will of course help for this).

I'm not sure what value Purslow has added. The major upturn for this club is all down to the huge amounts of cash NSWE have pumped in and continue to pour in. You could argue Purslow has put us back 18 months .

To do it legitimately it will require a string of seasons with high success and Heck persuading someone to make a significant investment at a high market rate. Look at Newcastle, clearly a fishy deal done there and that's not going to happen as quickly for us. Leicester challenged at the top for quite a while and still never got a deal anywhere near the level of the Sky 6. Thats where City and Newcastle have cheated, it takes a long time to build up the infrastructure ad track record to turn into a financial powerhouse.

For all the slagging of Spurs I think we should look at them because that is true organic growth by an outsider.

Bring him back…. I want a new stand!

LOL - It would be strange if he were to come back. But he left the club in a much state than when he arrived.

We seem to have gone back to the Paul Faulkner / Tom Fox calibre of CEO. Heaven help us if Chris Heck ever gets tasked with finding a new Head Coach

Finding a new manager would be Monchi’s job, hence the fear of Unai leaving and the whole crew packing it in too.
