That is still 26 players with 2 more coming in. In interview today on radio still talks of a 22 / 23 player squad.
 
Also 26 man squad. So will some players be going out, especially if looking at adding 2/3 more players?
 
Why have Cash and Brereton changed squad numbers but not Worrall and Smith. Would have thought Smith would have taken the number 1.

He also said a 22 man squad with a smattering of youth players, I think he still feels players like Worrall, Smith, Cash, Brereton, Walker & Evtimov are the youth, plus maybe even Osbourn, Lam & Clough.

No number 1,3 or 7 I would say they are the spaces left to fill!

We've been after a keeper - so possibly, if we get one they take No.1? Then loan out Evtimov once Henderson fully fit.

Walker - fully expect him to be loaned & would think he still regards Brereton, Evtimov, Worrall etc as the youngsters.
 
Henderson, Fox, Cash & Ward injured.

Mills & Carayol also had knocks - so, that 22 - 23 man squad is always ambitious for us.
 
Fair enough keeping some of the main numbers free but it doesn't half give me the pip that we have 26ish players yet we have idiots running around with squad numbers in the 30's & 40's. Not like in my day. Some of these players don't know they're born.
 
So MW only wants one more signing after confirming Dowell

Very risky as only wants a 23 man squad and half of them are injury prone

So will it be a left back? Centre Back? DM or keeper?
 
So out of the squad you have to worry about the fitness of following players especially when you consider their history.

4 – Michael Mancienne. Suseptiable to injury and our for a number of games last year and missed a few games beginning of pre season

5 – Matt Mills. Suseptiable to injury and our for a number of games last year and missed last few games beginning of pre season

6 – Armand Traore. Had a good pre season but has a terrible injury record. Need him to stay fit if not bringing a left back.

8 – Chris Cohen. We all know Chris ACL injuries in both knees. Looked behind pace in pre-season.

9 – Daryl Murphy. Spent half last season injured and now 34 will be eased through games but before last season had a good record

13 – Danny Fox. Injury prone and hasn't appeared yet in pre season

14 – Matty Cash. Out for 3 months after several months last year. Unlucky but out.

18 – Mustapha Carayol. Suseptiable to injury. Walked off in last game of season so not much heart and missed last few games of pre season

19 – Jamie Ward. Injury prone. Out again but this time not his hamstrings


24 – David Vaughan. Has problems with injuries. Good last season. Another year older and will have to be managed well to get best out of him week in week out.

25 – Jack Hobbs. Extremely brittle and injury prone.

30 – Stephen Henderson. A keeper out a number of times with different injuries. Still out for diving for shot that was struck from 30 yards out, missing it as ball flew into the back of net and somehow did his Achilles and been out for over 6 months.

31 – Andreas Bouchalakis. His career in Greece never took off due to injuries. And championship is a lot more demanding

34 – Tyler Walker probably going out loan, but last season he was blighted by injuries.

That's 14 players out of the squad!!

Hopefully the injury god will smile on us.

 
Stuart Pearce had this utopian idea of having only a small squad.

I remember that I and a few others pointed out at the time that this was a very risky strategy given how injury prone our squad was

And look what happened!
