Yorks v Surrey at Scarborough (1100 start)
YCCC Squad news (09/07/22) - Shannon Gabriel (recently signed fast bowler) is available to play. Fisher and Leech are still out injured. Don't know if any of the England players will be released to play. Kohler-Cadmore is being rested due to previous concussion injury. Patterson returns as captain, Tattersall keeps wicket. Youngsters Cliff and Wharton are in the 14-man squad too.

Weather forecast is good - should get a full day's play.

Day 1

Yorkshire debut for Shannon Gabriel and County Championship debut for young Will Luxton.
Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat first.

Lunch : Yorks 106-3. (Lyth 43 n.o. , Luxton 31 n.o.). Hill, Fraine, and Wharton were all out cheaply , but Luxton has had a decent debut, so far.

Tea : Yorks 260-5 (Lyth 104 n.o., Tattersall 53 n.o.). Luxton was out after lunch without adding any more runs, Waite (15) didn't last long either, but then there was a good partnership of 135 from Lyth and Tattersall. Best Surrey bowler was Worrall with 2-40 so far.

Close : Yorks 364-5. 104 more runs added in the evening session without the loss of a wicket. Lyth has batted all day for his 152 n.o., Tattersall finished with 104 n.o. Partnership for the sixth wicket is now worth 239 runs. What a turnaround, after a shaky start to the innings! (y)

Turnaround indeed!

Day 2 (continues...)
Unexpected rain shower! Think it said 1% probability of rain on the BBC forecast .:p
Probably won't cause much of a hold up though.

Update (1225) Yorks 402-5 now

Day 2 (continued...)

40 minutes lost earlier due to rain . Still quite overcast at Scarboro'.

Lyth out for 183. Lyth and Tattersall achieved the highest ever 6th wicket partnership for Yorkshire (305). Previous highest was Lyth and Rashid with 296 v Lancs (Old Trafford) in 2014.

Lunch : Yorks 489-7 (Bess 29). Tattersall 161 n.o. (his highest first-class score), Thompson 4 n.o. Worrall and Jacks now have two wickets each.

Afternoon update : Yorks 521 all out. (Tattersall 180 n.o.). Best Surrey bowler was Lawes with 4-51.

Tea : Surrey 80-0. The Yorkshire bowlers have had little impact so far, and Surrey have scored at a fast rate. :(

Close : Surrey 191-1. (Burns 94 n.o., Amla 45 n.o.) . Bess has taken the only wicket to fall .

Day 3 (continued...)

Lunch : Surrey 281-3. (Amla 79) Burns 131 n.o., Foakes 5 n.o. Two wickets for Bess so far. Looks like we are heading for another draw..

Tea : Surrey 410-6 . (Burns 132) Foakes 46 n.o., J.Overton 15 n.o. Two wickets each for Thompson and Bess so far.

Update : Surrey 515 all out. (Foakes 86 n.o.) . We allowed Surrey to make a last wicket stand of 48, and once again squandering our advantange. Best Yorkshire bowler was Bess with 5-126.

Day 4

Weather forecast is cooler and cloudy. I know it won't be great entertainment for the fans, but we have just got to try and bat out the overs for a draw now.

Lunch : Yorks 2nd inns. 136-6 . Bad collapse by the Yorkshire batting line up. We will do well to avoid defeat now. Three wickets for J.Overton so far in this innings.

Tea : Yorks 2nd inns. 220 all out (Waite 59 n.o.). J. Overton 6-61
Surrey 2nd inns. 32-1 (Burns 20) . Wicket for Bess. Gabriel and Hill have gone off injured.

Result : Surrey 2nd inns. 228-6 (Foakes 42 n.o., Hardie 40 n.o). Two wickets each for Thompson and Gabriel. Poor performance by Yorkshire today. Fraine may have scuppered his chances of another contract after this match. Surrey won by 4 wickets with 3 balls to spare. No repeat of the final over of the recent T20 game. Quite difficult to lose after batting first and scoring over 500, but Yorkshire managed it! With the England players missing , the Yorkshire reserve players had a chance to prove themselves, but sadly, were not up to the standard needed. :(
