The Tyrone Mings Thread

Tbh I’d have been surprised if had been picked for this squad, there’s always a mistake in him. If he were to cut the errors he would be a top defender. The only raised eyebrow has to be that Maguire is still picked but Southgate obviously really likes him so no chance of him being dropped.

Yeah he makes the odd mistake, although never let England down from memory, which has been pretty much the same excuse for picking Pickford.
Guehi and Ben White shouldn’t be in ahead of him

Not surprised Tyrone isn’t in the squad given his up and down form but we all know that if he was at a more ‘fashionable’ club performing exactly as he has been for us….he’d still be there…..! Predictable as ever from Mr Southgate and God knows how many that came before him.
Are Palace more fashionable that us then? Their lad is in, I think Mings has been very fortunate to get a call up at all and it's mostly down to him being left-footed and he talks nicely and says the right things in the media.
I think Southgate is an FA puppet, not my idea of a good manger by a long chalk

Might be a wake-up call for Tyrone. Pity the squad was announced when the season ended.

I don't think he is fortunate because there is so much competition for him. He is fortunate because there isn't. That's why he gets picked. Years gone by he isn't getting in the squad is he?. But despite the belief that this is some sort of vintage era for England if Harry Maguire is first named CB on the squad list then it's a low bench mark for those that follow.

No there seems to be a shortage of English left-sided CBs, Tyrone wouldn't make my top ten Villa CBs let alone play for England.
If I was Mings I'd be having a long hard look at myself and thinking is Harry Maguire really someone I can't better. I think his world is about to fall apart this summer and that of a few other regular Villa starters , I don't think he will be alone

4th most clearances in the PL this season. That's how much pressure he's under every game.

We're so used to seeing us bombarded with and dealing with attack after attack that it seems it's just become noise and we only focus on his mistakes.

A season with a talented proper specialist defensive midfielder in front of him I think we'll end up maybe finding some respect for poor old Tyrone.

I wasn’t suggesting less fashionable club players never get selected.Yes I know Guehi has been selected as have Mings and Ollie in previous squads but you can bet your bottom dollar that Guehi will be discarded in the same way if he doesn’t perform whilst so called senior members of the squad at more ‘fashionable’ clubs will remain even if they’re performing poorly for their clubs. I know you don’t rate Mings and you’ll never shirk from pointing out his limitations but his ability has sod all to do with the point I was making tbh. If Grealish had played for us this season in the same way and with the same game time as he’s had for Man City would he have been selected? Probably but there’s a definite chance he might not have been.. but being at Man City makes him a nailed on certainly. Maguire…horrendous season, of course he’s selected…etc etc…English set up stinks at times and has done for years. Whether Mings should have had a call up in the first place is a different argument completely.

Mainly the reason can't be bothered with England team

cos it means they are less likely to get illusions of grandeur / tapped up which always seems to happen with our better players when they go to En-ger-land camps

Divine is clearly celebrating the fact that Tyrone will get a good rest and come back raring to go in pre season. Otherwise I can’t think why a Villa..ahem…fan…would celebrate one of our players being dropped from the national squad.

:wagging: It is because he does not deserve to be there at all. Now I hope we get a reliable CB who can lead by example without defensive blunders to replace him in central defense and also take the captain's armband off him and give to a deserving person for example Emi Martinez.

It's a much of muchness to me. I seriously doubt Mings has done any better than most of the centre halves in there. White has apparently had a good season in a side that finished what? 5th? Makes more sense than Mings who has had a decent at very best season and finished 14th.

The only major mystery is Maguire who is a shambolic player and one of the worst defenders in any top flight league in Europe but he must have some sort of sex tape, perhaps involving Southgate's mrs, in his possession.
