Jan Transfer Window

The same reasons many people join firms, move house, change partners etc.

He gets a good feeling from the club & it's staff.

He believes in the ethos he's sold.

He feels the role he'll get in the team is one which he'll thrive on playing.

He likes the area

He gets on with the other lads in the squad

He's looked after & made to feel he'll be treated well

etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect it to work everytime, but I think Grabban was the last player who we signed which other clubs wanted?

Regards Prem Class staff I was talking about Vrentroz & Modesto specifically, Neither are.

In the present climate players find it very difficult moving clubs. Unless it is within commuter distance of family they are living in digs with no one they know. They train in a bubble and only play with some on match days. Staff are even more difficult to know as socialising and team building is non existent.

How does he make a judgement on liking an area. All social activities are closed and non work related events out of bounds. Can’t go off with your new mates for a round of golf or a meal.

One may feel that a player like Taylor should feel settled in by now but he has only just found out that Joe Lolley comes from Birmingham and Andy Reid is Irish.

According to a report by both Taylors in the Athletic a couple of weeks back, Modesto has never been anything other than a Scout.

The inference from the article was that Modesto would provide a list of players and someone else would make the decision; I got the distinct impression that they were pointing the finger at Vrentzos.

They went to great lengths to highlight that it was now down to Hughton to make the decisions

Modesto's main remit now is to sign up and coming players for the Academy; something he has done extremely well while he has been with us.

It would appear, according to reports that Modesto is fulfilling that remit. If CH is making final decisions then we can assume the wholesale influx of foreign based players will stop as he hasn’t been out of U.K. since his arrival. Noticeable the three arrivals this window are 6 month contracts and loans, all based in U.K.

Off the top of my head last window was all frees and loans apart from McKenna and Mbe Sow. Both of whom have showed promise if only in the few games they have played.

Howe won't go back there currently they are in a mess and he wants a decent prem club, he will go back in 10 years or so probably when they are in lg1 and start again.

I am, it's another waste of resources on someone that will be difficult to unload in the not too distant future

The one thing about all of this kind of signing is that they have not been difficult to move on, and you can bet that they are not on a kings ransom wages wise.

Guerrero, Soudani, Tachsidis, Ansarifard, Chema, Bouchelakis and Kapino all came and went without any fuss and we did not lose on the deal; in some cases like Soudani we made money on the deal.

Of all the ones we have signed only Vellios proved difficult to move on.

I am convinced that these kind of deals help towards our P & S compliance.

I just cant see Cafu featuring, when everyone is fit; he will most likely be off back to Greece in the summer with a fee involved.

Cafu would have been a great signing 30 years ago, an upgrade on Cash and would have enabled us to employ the same effective tactics last season of having a right back bombing forward.

Unfortunately, this is 2021 and it's the wrong fucking Cafu, isn't it?

Typical schoolboy error that we have come to expect from the Recruitment Team.

A deal was going to happen with the number of loans we have. Making Cafu a perm signing makes sense as he is playing regularly. It also means all the loans can feature in the match day squad. The other of the loans are either not available to buy or are too expensive for us currently.

I believe your thinking is correct on this. He can always be loaned back to Oly. He is not being paid anything like some of the other loanees. Also possibly a bit of S&P compliance and right offs, although I can’t figure how but am sure the accountants amongst you have it figured.

Cafu has signed a two year permanent deal. Not sure what to think of that one...

I was going to post last week, that I'd heard one of the loanees had been offered a permanent contract.

I knew it wasn't Knocky or the 2 latest additions, so was either Christie, Freeman or Cafu.

Personally, I think Cafu has done ok, whilst playing in a position that he is not normally suited to (no.10) - he's 27, a decent physical presence and is arguably the replacement for Sow.

I can't see us extending Sow's contract, Bachirou was excluded from last night's squad - with Colback returning in preference .... presumably Arter still injured .... and with Yates to return too - we're still well stocked.

So - I have no problem with the permanent signing of Cafu & reduces the headache with how many loanees can be involved.

Cafu will be on half the money Colback or Arter earn and I'm of a similar opinion, we could sell him at a profit.

If rumours are true about Arter, he could be off this summer, I'd let Sow go too - which, then leaves us with Colback, Yates, Bach & Cafu.

Heard that Bachirou may well be allowed to leave, only signed a 2 year deal!

We have a permanent signing option for Freeman, so CH will give him game time to get fit - to see whether we take up the option... currently, it's a no from me, but let's see how he does in the next 19 games.

Let's see how he does in his favoured midfield position - he isn't a No.10, but at least put a shift in.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets this season but is sold on at the end of the season as usually happens.
