Match Thread: Plymouth Argyle v Lincoln City

A ruthless streak in front of goal needs to be developed across the whole squad not just the attacking players , team game.
Absolutely: over reliance on the mythical "20 goal striker" is counter productive. But the current squad need cleaner, accurate finishing than shown in recent games.

36 goals scored this season.
20 from open play.
7 from penalties (though I have given Grant's v Charlton as a 'penalty').
5 from corners.
4 from free kicks.
How does that look if we remove the cup games against lower league opposition? (we smashed 11 past Bradford and FGR).

So what are the figures for league games?

We've scored 16 league goals and I make the divide ....
  • 6 from penalties
    • Grant v MK Dons
    • Grant v Chartlon
    • Grant v Blackpool
    • Grant v Blackpool
    • Grant v Plymouth
    • Grant v Ipswich
  • 5 from open play
    • Scully v Oxford
    • Hopper v MK Dons
    • Johnson v Plymouth
    • Anderson v Crewe
    • Hopper v Portsmouth
  • 3 from corners
    • Monstma v Charlton
    • Monstma v Blackpool
    • Monstma v Swindon
  • 2 from free kicks
    • Jackson v Oxford
    • Monstma/OG v Bristol Rovers

So a goal from open play not quite every other match... if you include the Charlton goal ( the missed pen) as a goal from open play, definite area to improve on.

Just 4 in the last 6 league games too ... which for a side up in 3rd place isn't good enough, thankfully the defence is top notch, hence results decent.

Thanks, that confirms what I thought; that the overall figures are effectively massaged by having pumped some lower-league sides in the cups, and that in the league - which is where we are now entirely focused - we are struggling to score from open play. Obviously the opposition in the league will be a higher standard so opportunities will not come as readily as against League 2 sides.

Still in the EFL Trophy!

But we all know the 6 penalties would have resulted in goals if hadn’t have been fouled

West Bridgeford 🤥
Daughter lives in Sneinton, has it’s interesting side

Oh yes, even more so back then. I remember the Post headline "Sneinton Man Stabbed In Pub", the article being about my local.

One time I saw a man wielding a piece of 2x4 chasing another, semi-naked man, down Sneinton Boulevard. I wonder what had happened there?

And one very kind local soul pitched my wheelie-bin through my front-window one night.

Still, not as bad as St. Anne's! :)

Harry captained the Imps for the first time:

https://www.weareimps.com/news/2020/november/201130-harry-anderson/

The only thing is, it was actually his 187th appearance, not his 185th. Some online databases tend not to include FA Cup qualifiers, so Harry has only 185 according to some sources. He played in two qualifiers in 2016-17 - the two games against Guiseley. I presume the club does not intend to view those matches as irrelevant?
