The Tyrone Mings Thread

Agree with regards to the price, £20m is very fair given he’s a rock, is constantly getting better and better and is just 26. I read a few comments on social media saying £26m was too much, but it feels like the going rate for a good defender, when the likes of Van Dijk and Maguire have gone or are being touted to go for 3-4 times as much.

If he succeeds here and we’re unlucky, Liverpool will come a knocking and we’ll flog him on for £50-60min a few years. If we’re lucky, he’ll stay for life, play in europe and win a trophy or two.

A bit of jizz came out for me too, I’ve sent the missus to bed I don’t need sex tonight.

Great that he's back, Don't understand why it never really worked for him at Bournemouth after seeing the way he has played for us. Can't imagine him playing second fiddle to anybody to be honest and i don't think that will change now we are in the prem. must be JT has had a lot to do with that.

We want the player as the manager feels he is the right player having worked with him, that's good enough for me.

I so hope this works for us.

However, it worries me that we have rolled over and had our belly tickled on negotiating the price.
This is a (Bournemouth - not top four) squad player, who only managed 19 prem appearances in four long years having been bought for £8M. I would have expected his price to drop, our at best stay roughly the same considering his Bournemouth time.

So after 15-16 games for us in no more than 5 months we pay 3 times his purchase price, with little concern to his poor record for injuries or lack of play in the previous 4 years.

It seems as if Theresa May was doing our negotiating! I do really like him and hope it works out, but £20 + extras is a massive price for an £8M player that hasn’t played (or proven) much since.

No idea how you can compare Van Dijk and Maguire. Van Dijk has become a majestic defender.

Maybe the smarmy git down at the 11000 capacity Dean Court just didn't fancy him, happens all the time. Maybe he needed a bigger stage - can't see how you can say he hasn't proven anything, his performances at Villa were extremely promising.

I'm afraid it's just down to the money in football.

Look at Danny Ings. Liverpool signed him for £6.5 million from Burnley. He played 14 games in 4 seasons. They have just sold him to Southampton for £20 million!!!

I think transfers fees in general have just quadrupled in the past few years and we just have to accept it.

When it comes to negotiating this or any other transfer fee on behalf of Aston Villa Football Club I have trust in our CEO Christain Purslow who not only has done the same job at 2 of the UK's biggest clubs Liverpool and Chelsea but also has this background below..................

"Before taking up senior roles in English football, Purslow accrued a wealth of experience in the business world.

He boasts a first-class education, having studied at both the University of Cambridge and Harvard Business School.

His background is in private equity and as co-founder of New York-based MidOcean Partners - who specialise in leveraged buyouts - he’s been involved in a string of high-profile multi-million-pound deals in the past.

Having also worked at two of the biggest clubs in the country, Purslow certainly knows the demands of day-to-day running amongst football’s elite."

When you take the above into account - the business experience in sport etc, plus the immense personal wealth of Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens then going into transfer negotiations will be tough going for any other club and I can hardly see the club being "rolled over and had our belly tickled on negotiating"

I personally believe we are extremely lucky they bought into Aston Villa, and not only financially stabilised the club but most likely saved it from financial liquidation.

Only just got this news was out on the piss all day yesterday and what great news it is he's the one player i really didn't give a shit how much we paid he's just Villa he loves us you can see that and Villa Park is his stage now I can relax I don't care who we do or don't sign from here on in this was the one.

Bargain at £20m especially as we know he can play unlike Bournemouth fans who have hardly seen him .
We've had some cracking CB's over the years and Mings look like another .
Two things Villans know is a good Centre Forward and a Good Centre Back , we've had many

Nobody really knows what a realistic fee is anymore. Maguire is never worth £80m, I’ll be amazed if Wan Bissaka proves good value at £50m. I’d much rather pay £20m for Mings than £30m on Webster. We just have to accept that transfer fees have increased dramatically since we were last in the top flight

He is worth 20 million to us based on the impact he had last season. Anyone watching him could see he was a premier league defender play below his level . Those Bournemouth fans laughing at us for paying so much are the mugs as they have a manager who fails to see how good he is.

They still have an extremely talented manager though SD. Similar scenario to what Deano has done here really in some respects (except his journey there has been longer and started from an even more precarious position!).

Furthermore, the reason he didn't get much of a look in down there was a) injuries and b) the form of Ake - a left-sided centre-back, who is a Dutch international, now being linked to Ci£y for £50m+ & considered the reason Bournemouth's defensive record wasn't any worse than it already was!

Yes. I was just having a bit of a cheap shot at them , but my point remains that he is worth £20 million to us.
