With two years left he wants on par with Kane.

Pay it.

We can’t afford to lose him and we certainly won’t pay to replace him.

We spend nothing in the window so use the cash to increase contracts.

I'm not sure it's going to matter what we offer him.

If Real Madrid's or Barca interest is not all media talk - there are genuine indications to believe we have made him a huge contract offer to his agent prior to the World Cup; unless it's signed soon, I can't see him staying.

Just got to hope that if we are forced to sell we use the 120-150 mill Euro's we get for him well.

Well if we want to be a top club then players are now about to come knocking for their bumper deals and that means paying over 120k a week.

Toby, eriksen want 150k plus. Dele will want over 100k.

They all see kanes contract and want their slice of the pie.

I am almost certain he wants out I have no info just instinct. I also think he will be a massive loss. We needed to match the ambition of these players because I think now more than money it is the issue. I think had we added Mahrez or another top class couple of players the illusion of wanting to win rather than compete could have been maintained now even Stevie Wonder can see this NOT our mission.

He's out, and we should have brought in his replacement because when he goes every club will quote us world record fees for bang average players. Same with Verts.

Not bringing in one top player a window will haunt us next summer when our spine will be dismantled.

Whilst I don't disagree with you Pollo , I think the prices being quoted for players has already reached the level you are saying .

70 million for a goalkeeper will now seem the norm ,which I think is ridiculous , and the price for "a bang average player " is the same .

We have the beginnings to be a top European club , it's about time we started behaving like one . We need to keep Eriksen AND bring in another one like him Proactive ,not reactive .
Obviously 60,000 people a home game brings in the money , perhaps Poch has got too far in front of the project

Although I agree, it appears you missed my point.

If you're going to replace a player after you sold him for top money, all the clubs will be aware of that and add an insane premium. Whatever it is that we would have paid, add a 50%-100% premium to quoted prices.

We bought Sanchez to replace Toby before we sold the latter, this should have been done with more players who are running down their contracts. Buying a year before you sell also increases the club's margin as price inflation kicks in.

We lack that forward thinking.

Sorry, I think we need a reality check here; IF a club like Real Madrid/Barca come knocking, the chances are any and ever player in the PL would sit up and listen - it's not just the huge wages they can pay, it's also the lifestyle - sun, Mediterranean life style, bigger global exposure which directly feeds into endorsements and post-retirement exposure.

And that's not even taking into account the tax treatment that they still can get away with because of the way Spain allows image/overseas marketing payments for rights.

Bale earns in the region of 600,000 Euro's a week, only paying about 25-30% tax on it; sums we cannot even think about matching; which is why I thought it was laughable that some thought we could get him back.

Like it or not, we're not in that class and when a player hits the two year mark and isn't signing a new deal, we'll look to sell - which I entirely agree with.

What we have to improve is how we spend the money after being forced to sell.

Liverpool sold at the top end for a player some thought was irreplaceable - but the way they've spent since, whilst the goalkeeping money looks like madness - at the moment, he's hardly been missed.

That's what we have to achieve when we're forced to sell.

We are on the cusp of being a top-line club, but competing with the likes of the European giants financially or being as attractive maybe a lifetime away.

Ex, Pool spent their money well before they sold Coutinho on Keita and VVD. Whilst paying insane money they got 2 top players in positions they needed, and got them when they wanted without haggling.

Well the players make crazy money regardless of whether they play here or in Europe. Kind of sickening really

To me it is a question of whether you want to play in the best league...the EPL...or play in a lame one...pretty much everywhere else.

Whether it's before or after; they knew Coutino was going and used the funds wisely; we have to learn to do the same.

The problem with the PL is that players, players agents and medical specialists believe it shortens careers, it's backed up by some of the injury stats and the top players and agents simply ask themselves if playing in a highly competitive league without a break (ok that will finally change next season) is worth risking their health and wealth for...

Of course, they only ask these questions when the top clubs in Europe come knocking.

The PL is a highly competitive fan spectacular, but it isn't enough to convince the top players that staying in it is always worth it...

If I were advising Eriksen and I had solid interest from Spain or the top clubs in Italy and Germany, I'd be advising we take the career step back to Europe, it makes financial (much lower taxatio on earnings), health (not as many high stress games) and lifestyle choices for short playing careers pretty attractive.

It's worth also saying that the 'reported' current interest/ 100 mill bid being prepared for Eriksen from PSG is in my opinion a total nonsense -

- if the ragtops that came up with it has done any research they'd know that PSG are about to get hammered by UEFA's FFFP rules and even this weekend had 6 untried kids in their squad..and are chucking out high earners faster than they can retire.

They won't be spending big anytime soon; Rose if he goes is likely to be a loan deal and he'll only be cover for their domestic 18 (that's how they're calling it now) so that they can 'protect' their best 14 players for the Champs league....and they'll need to do that for around three years if what I see from their finances is eventually shown to be true...

If you're going to quote pool you really should point out that they had the £100m+ for Coutino in the kitty and they turnover £100m a year more than us, Coutino paid for Van Dyke and Alisson.

Sorry Pollo, I 100% agree with you . I think I just put it very badly and got a bit sidetracked with what I was trying to say .

Seems like the PL is the place to make your name and La Liga, SerieA and the French League are then your early retirement homes of choice. Same for the Bundesliga. I saw a report last week that EUFA or FIFA were concerned that pirate streaming of matches is threatening the economic structure of European football......all I can say is more power to the pirates.

I only quote them as an example if being prepared to spend big to make a small incremental improvement - and not do what we did with the Bale money, which apart from Eriksen (who at the time I couldn't believe we'd signed), wasn't our smartest set of transfers..

I'm fully aware that the disparity bertween us is vast; t's not just the 100mill p.a. difference that we've closed the gap to - although this year iit's likely to be closer to 150 mill....it's the fact that their capital employed is nearly 1 billion more than us.
